Thirty Five

Adeline's P.O.V

We were at rehearsal again but we were in a cast meeting before we could start. I sat next to Archie as he leaned against me. Archie's head was on my shoulder as I let him rest up.

"So last night was big fun. But... now it's time to dig deep. So, we're each gonna share something that we've never told anyone before," Evelyn told us. Most of everyone had headaches so everyone was slightly out of it.

"Big or small. So, does no one have a burden that the rest of us can help shoulder?" Evelyn asked. I looked around to see if anyone wanted to start off.

"I'm being haunted by Midge's ghost. I've been thinking about her all the time since rehearsals started and I just... I just feel so guilty," Kevin admitted.

"I've been seeing her, too. Not her ghost. But in nightmares," Fangs mentioned. Evelyn chuckled nervously before standing up.

"How beautiful. Through revealing their truth, these two young men have found an unexpected connection, perhaps more. So, um, who would like to go next?"

"I've got something," Sweet Pea said. I looked over at him to see what he had to say.

"I know it was all my fault that I cheated Adeline with Josie. But seeing Adeline move on with her new boyfriend after we had a few moments together and seeing Josie and Archie cozy together, it blows," Sweet Pea admitted. Archie sat up before looking at me. I looked over at Sweet Pea with a shocked expression.

"Arch, are you and Josie dating?" Betty asked.

"Well, I mean..."

"Uh..." Josie couldn't say anything without making this more awkward.

"Did you know about this?" I heard Reggie ask. I looked over to see Reggie talking to Veronica.

"What? No, I had no idea," Veronica answered.

"The fact that your ex-boo has a new girlfriend has nothing to do with you suddenly being all-in with me?" Reggie asked.

"How many of you guys are or had a thing with my ex boyfriends? I literally trusted every single one of you," I asked, still in shock. First Josie had a thing with Sweet Pea and now Veronica with Reggie?

"Veronica? Anything to share?" Evelyn asked her.

"I just found out that my parents are separating. My family's unconventional, to say the least, but I always thought, no matter what, they'd stay together," Veronica tells us. Betty went over to comfort her.

"And that is what we in the theater call a breakthrough," Evelyn tells us.

I looked around before standing up. I felt tears about to fall making me run out of the theater.

"Adeline!"

I sat on some stairs, crying from what happened. Reggie moved on which I'm happy about but the fact that Sweet Pea cheated on me with Josie who is now a thing with Archie and hearing it out loud make me break. I'm happy with Beckham but it still hurts.

"Adeline?" I looked up to see Cheryl sit next to me. I continued to cry as she put an arm around me. I leaned against her as I cried.

"Why is this happening to me?" I asked her.

"It's not your fault, Adeline. Look, you have a great boyfriend who loves you, your older brother who is super protective of you, and you are the president of the student body. So dry your eyes, fix your makeup, and remember that no guy can ever hurt you," Cheryl tells me. I looked up at her as she handed me a tissue. I nodded before we went to the bathroom together.
