Adeline's P.O.V

I felt a tap on my shoulder as I was grabbing some stuff from my locker. I turned to see Betty standing behind me.

"Adeline. I need to talk to you," Betty said. I looked at her and nodded.

I was in a room with Josie, Kevin, and Reggie. I sat on a chair as Betty told us what her mom had told her. It felt so unreal for her to tell us that.

"Our parents kissed?" I asked.

"Hold up. You're telling me that my mother was a rule-breaking, anti-apartheid activist in high school?" Josie asked Betty.

"And that she and my dad were together back then?" Kevin asked Betty. Betty looked at us, hoping that we would believe her.

"I don't buy it. There's no way my old man hung out and did, like, cosplay with a group of lame-ass nerds," Reggie said.

"One of those lame-ass nerds was my dad, Reggie," I scowled.

"Sorry."

"Okay, it's true, Reggie," Betty said.

"And you want us to find out what exactly?" Josie said.

"Didn't you hear her before Josie? Or does Betty need to explain it to you more? Cause apparently you need a good reason before doing something now," I asked her.

"Adeline, I said I was sorry," She said.

"Sorry doesn't get you my trust and forgiveness," I tell her.

"Girls stop it for one moment," Kevin said.

"Thank you, Kevin. My suspicion is that whoever was running the game back then is running it now. Which is why we need to stop them before things get any worse..." Betty said.

"What, what are you trying to say? That one of our parents might be responsible for what happened to Dilton and Ben?" Josie said.

"Maybe. And that's why you can't tell them that you know about their Midnight Club, okay? You have to be careful and subtle when you ask them what they know," Betty said.

"Okay. Fine," Josie said.

"I don't think I'm going to get something out of my dad but I'll try," Reggie said. The three left while I stayed behind. I stood up and walked closer to Betty.

"I believe you Betty," I tell her.

"You do?" She asked me.

"Yes. This town is full of so many secrets, I wouldn't be surprised if what you said was true," I tell her.

"Thank you for understanding," Betty said.

"You've been like an older sister to me, Betty. Just let me know what else is going on. I hate being in the dark," I tell her.

"To be honest, Archie said that if we found out stuff about anything dangerous, we needed to keep it away from you. I mean, I remembered when it was you who found out that Mr. Blossom killed Jason," Betty told me. Chills ran up my spine.

I remembered what happened and how horrified I felt. That's when I stopped wanting to solve a mystery. I knew I couldn't handle what had happened and the consequences that occurred.

"Archie wanted me away from all the mystery?" I told her.

"Yeah," Betty nodded.

"Sounds like Archie. He's always super protective," I scoffed. I leaned against a desk as I rolled my eyes.

"He's just looking out for you, Adeline," Betty told me.

"I know but he should know I can take care of myself," I tell her.

"Have to seem him lately?" She asked.

"No. That stupid prison has been acting weird and I know something is up. All I know is that once I find out what the hell they're doing, I'm going to raise hell," I tell her.
