"Your master has been becoming weird as days passed by." I closed my eyes, savoring the fresh wind.
"Something is bothering him. I can feel it. While I was checking him awhile ago, I noticed that there's someone bothering his mind. I can read it because I'm a robot." My brow furrowed.
"Maybe he's just stressed?"
But months have passed, and I know it's more than just stress.
"Why do I care for him anyway?"
"I know who's that someone that bothers the mind of my master."
"Tell me who it is, then?"
"It's a secret."
"Can you tell me the secret?"
"Nope, a secret, remember?" He flew away from me.
"Silly robot." I grabbed my things and walked back to my room. I glanced at the students in the oval. They were all busy reading books. This is what they always did since the first day.
I sighed in frustration.
Thousands of students will lose their bright futures when they're turned into machines by these robots. I won't let that happen.
When I reached my room, I saw the girl staring at the wall. I sighed deeply. Days had passed since I saved her, but she still hadn't spoken to me.
"Are you okay?" She glanced at me and then suddenly bowed her head.
She started crying. I was shocked. I couldn't do anything about it. I caressed her back, trying to comfort her. She just cried while I was there, making sure she didn't feel alone.
She continued to cry silently, only occasional sobs escaping. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I wanted to help her, but I didn't know how because she wasn't speaking.
"C-Can you talk? Please speak to me. Tell me what you want to say. I promise, I'll listen." She raised her hand. That's when I realized she couldn't speak. She was mute.
"A-Are you a mute? What's your name?" She nodded and began signing. I tried to understand her. She attempted to speak, but no sound came out.
"Cynthia?" She nodded again.
"You're mute, but you're not deaf." I took a comb and brushed her hair. Thankfully, I learned sign language when I was a child.
"Why did you become mute? Inborn?" She shook her head and explained using her hands.
"The robots removed your larynx?" She nodded. I sighed. They're really so cruel. This isn't healthy anymore.
"Do you have anyone else with you? Or are you alone?" She raised her hand and started explaining.
"There are still people left?" She nodded again. I became restless, knowing there were more people in the robots' base.
"How many of them?" I frowned at her answer.
"Two? Why only two?" Only two people left there? Why just two? I waited for her to respond using her fingers.
"They place other students in different bases?" My heart sank.
So, they have many bases where they put students to turn them into robots? She raised her hand again.
"The two... left... there... are... a boy and a girl... they've been there for years... used by the robots... to make more robots because of their unique intelligence..."
I could do nothing but hug her. She must have been trapped there for a long time, and I was glad to have saved her, even if it meant risking my own safety.
