Close
I woke up unexpectedly, jolted from my sleep. Despite feeling drowsy, my gaze was suddenly drawn to the window. There, I saw a light flickering in the middle of the forest. From where I was, I could see how the light moved.
I turned my head to Cynthia. She was sound asleep. I got up and quickly brushed my hair. I faced my closet, grabbed my ninja attire, and quietly left the room. The surroundings were eerily silent. I ran downstairs and made my way towards the forest without hesitation.
I knew it was late at night, and Simon would be angry if he found out, but curiosity drove me forward. I climbed a tree, feeling incredibly sleepy.
As luck would have it, there were robots scattered around. I waited for them to move away before climbing down. I searched for the source of the light, but it suddenly disappeared.
"Where's the light?" I whispered to myself.
I put on my night glasses and saw the path I needed to take. I looked up at the sky and tried to locate the source of the light. Suddenly, I heard a scream. Frowning, I quickly climbed the tree and listened to the woman's cries. She was sobbing loudly, along with a desperate shout.
"Let us go! We've had enough here!"
It was unmistakably the voice of a young woman. I was about to climb down when a robot appeared below me. My eyes widened as it began shooting at the trees. Fortunately, the tree I was on was sturdy and I wasn't hit.
"I have to do something to get there." I was puzzled about how to get out of the tree without descending.
I retrieved a small rope from my boots and pressed the red button. The rope extended and I swiftly threw it to the next tree, swinging across like Tarzan. Luckily, the robot didn't notice me.
I carefully descended and made my way toward the scientists' laboratory. Before I could reach the center, I heard another scream. I quickly climbed back up the tree in panic. There, I saw two people, out of breath from running, holding hands.
"We need to hide," the man said. I wanted to go down, but I knew they might think I was with the scientists and I could be in danger, which I didn't want, especially knowing how Simon would react.
"B-But where?"
"Y-You have to hide, honey. Listen to me, okay? I'll distract the robot so you can get out of this island. The flying saucer is still at its old location. You need to go there. Do you hear me?" My eyes widened as I heard the footsteps of the robot.
"N-No! We will hide together! We will get out of here together! P-Please! P-Please!" The woman was crying. Tears suddenly fell from my eyes. I quickly wiped them away.
Perhaps I was just moved by their situation. I suddenly remembered Simon. I didn't want to end up in a situation like theirs. I couldn't bear to leave him on this island while I escaped.
I didn't know what decision I'd make if we were trapped in such a situation. I'd be confused and hurt. I glanced at the two of them. I was about to descend when more robots appeared.
Why am I crying anyway?
"We will be safe; you have to trust me. Go now! Run!"
The woman ran away from the man. I was about to climb down when a robot suddenly stopped beneath the branch I was on.
"I have to help the two strangers," I whispered.
The robot moved away, so I quickly climbed down. I followed the path the woman had taken and saw her cornered by a robot. I ran towards her, but the robot turned around and began firing bullets.
