Mother
"Hard-headed, what did I tell you?"
I had no choice but to listen. My mouth suddenly watered.
I knew I was craving something again.
"Is there any Samyang here?"
They looked at me in surprise. I just wanted Samyang because my baby craved it. Was that too much to ask?
"What?! Don't tell me... you're craving Samyang for your baby?!"
"And also chili. I want something spicy."
These past few months, I had noticed that I was craving spicy food for my baby.
"Please! Samyang, please!" I didn't realize I was about to cry until Janus walked in with a bowl.
"Samyang times twelve, here you go."
Without hesitation, I devoured it. I knew everyone was watching me, but I didn't care.
"If I'm eating, please don't disturb me."
"Yummy!"
"She just ate the spiciest Samyang for 3 minutes?! Weird, Camael." I just smiled at them.
30 minutes later...
I needed something sweet. I bet my baby was hungry.
Everyone's eyes were on me, waiting for my next craving. When I don't get what I want to eat, I end up crying and going to sleep hungry.
"I want Nacional... cocoa bean... that's chocolate."
"Fucking what?"
"Why?"
"C-Camael... that's sourced from South America... from Ecuador and Peru." I smiled. Sorry, baby. We won't be able to fulfill this craving today because it's too far to get.
"It's okay. Never mind."
I decided to go to sleep. I knew they wouldn't be able to get it. Who would go all the way to South America for me? No one. Unless I was that important.
When I woke up, it was morning. I was about to stretch when I saw Janus sleeping beside me, holding a plastic bag.
"Janus, hi!" I smiled at him, and he handed me the Nacional Cocoa Beans.
"P-Pumunta ka---"
"Yup, just South America."
Just South America? They make it sound so trivial. I started eating the beans. They were delicious and so sweet.
"You didn't know that Simon once went to Canada just to buy Poutine. It was his favorite."
My eyes widened. Simon went to Canada just for food?
How strange Simon was.
"But the sweetest thing he did was on Christmas Day. We all gathered—Caldrin, Simon, Dad, and I. We faced the Christmas Tree and listed all our wish lists. I suddenly remembered that everything on our list was extremely expensive. Only available in other countries. Dad, Caldrin, and I agreed because Simon started crying. So, all our wishes were expensive, while Simon's wish was simple." I bowed my head while eating, trying not to cry as it might affect my baby.
"At midnight on the 24th, we were back in front of the Christmas Tree. We were supposed to exchange gifts, but Simon wasn't there until he finally arrived, panting and carrying many gifts. When it was time to exchange, we were supposed to draw lots, but do you know what Simon did?"
"What?"
"He gave us all gifts. He even said there should be equity in everything. What a good asshole. I can't believe my brother can be so foolish sometimes. When we opened the gifts? I was really shocked."
