Circumcise
""Are you all ready?" Levi asked his well-dressed siblings, even though they were just going for a circumcision.
They were all wearing the Gucci that Janus gave them.
"Handsome men are supposed to always be ready," Evan boasted.
Simon went downstairs, wearing a white polo and simple black pants. I stared at him. He still had that undeniable charm.
"Mom, Dad might melt," I said, giving Ronan a disapproving look. That kid is really something.
He held my waist and kissed my forehead.
"Ronan's right... I might melt."
I kissed him passionately. We all went outside and got into the car. I thought I would be driving again, but Simon took the driver's seat.
"Let me drive for now, Camael. I know you're already great at driving."
My thoughts took a wild turn.
It makes me think of something crazy!
"You horny scientist!" I teased, pinching him in the side.
"You're great for driving me crazy—ow! Let me finish first!"
I rolled my eyes. I put Levi in the middle, between his older brothers. Before he even started driving, Simon intertwined our hands.
"Just behave, Montrearde. Don't let your flirtatiousness cause an accident," I complained, even though I really enjoyed what he was doing.
"Admit it, Camael, you love this because you love me. Such a denial, beautiful psychologist." I rolled my eyes again. He stared at me, and I couldn't stop laughing.
Sometimes I want to kiss Simon all day, but often I want to hit him and beat him up. I looked back. Our children were already asleep. They're a bunch of sleepyheads. I grabbed a blanket and covered them.
"You carried quadruplets?" he suddenly asked.
I looked at him.
"Yes, why?"
"You're amazing. I'm so proud of you. You took care of those four babies alone... you delivered four babies alone. I'm sorry, Camael. I'm sorry I wasn't there when you craved weird foods. I wish I had been there taking care of our babies. I know it's incredibly hard... taking care of four angels on your own. I'm sorry I left you when you needed me the most. I'm sorry you had to endure that kind of pain. I'm sorry for making you believe I was dead. I'm so sorry. I should have woken up earlier than eight years. I missed seeing our babies' first words... their first steps... hearing their first cries... seeing their first laughs and smiles. I missed all those chances to be the father who would protect them from their imaginary monsters before they fell asleep or when they woke up from bad dreams. I missed being the father who would send them to school or fetch them while listening to their stories about their first experiences. I missed every first moment, Camael... and I don't think I can ever bring those back."
I stopped him from talking by claiming his lips.
"It's unbelievable, right? Just focus, Simon. What matters is what we have now. You can still drop them off... or do whatever you plan to do. This is your chance to experience those 'firsts' you've been talking about. You haven't missed those chances. You can still do all of that now. Believe me, every first experience of our children in this world will not compare to the firsts they will have with you... with Daddy Simon. So what if you didn't see everything that happened to them as they grew up? You can still make it up to them, Simon. It's not too late. Levi is still not an adult... and Ronan, Evanthine, and Camaeron are still young. They still need you as their father. Believe me. They ask about you every day. They always wish you were here for them. So, Simon... make it up to them now. Make it up to your children... and especially to me." He winked at me before claiming my lips once more.
