It was late and everyone was in their beds. It was extremely quiet, the only sound was of owls making their call throughout the woods. It would soon be Christmas, so everyone was on their well deserved break. The tree was up and lit up with lights. Everything was decorated for the holiday season. It was calm, warm, and cozy, until something had to disturb the perfect night.
Somebody walked into the quiet bedroom. The door creaking ever so slightly, causing one of the sleeping figures to twitch. The intruder touched the sleeping female, shaking her slightly to wake up. She groaned in annoyance.
"Will...?" She mumbled groggily. Barely opening her eyes to see the male, still sleeping. She turned her head to see someone standing next to the bedside. It was dark, which made it very hard to see.
The lamp on the nightstand was turned on causing the male to awaken.
"What's wrong?" William asked, sleep still remaining in his hushed voice.
"Why the hell...are you in here?" His voice now mixed with sleepiness and frustration, at the little boy who stood next to the bed.
"I-I got scared." The little boy asked.
"It's okay..." A warm smile appeared on Lea's face. She sat up to hug the little boy.
"Lea, where's Mommy?" The little boy asked.
"She probably downstairs, Bennie. Why did you come all the way up here?" She asked her little brother. They traveled a long way to visit, and are now spending the next two weeks in the unnecessarily large and expensive house.
William watched the situation quietly, still laying down because he was comfortable. Lea was still hugging the small boy.
"Why can't I sleep in here with you?" Bennie asked his older sister. She didn't have a good reason why so she looked at William, who shook his head in disagreement.
"Because you should be sleeping in your own bed, kid." William chimed in, not in the most positive way.
"What he meant was that you should be downstairs with Mom, she'll worry about you." She said sweetly with a smile. Bennie smiled back at her and nodded, slowly stepping out of the room.
Lea flopped down on the bed with a sigh, startling William, who was already back asleep. She turned the light off, and tried to get comfortable. Lea started to mess with William's hair, which caused his eyes to open, making Lea smile.
"Hi." He whispered. It was late so he didn't want to be loud. She continued to mess with his hair, smiling. She was glad that she was able to get him to take his medication, finally. It didn't make up for the lack of emotions but she loved him nonetheless.
"I can't go back to sleep." She whispered back. Her insomnia was partly from disturbed sleep, and the pain from her three surgeries.
"How are your sides?" The question surprised her, but she smiled anyway.
"They hurt like hell." She had to get help with everything. Getting dressed, sometimes bathing/showering, and even reaching things, because it hurt to stretch.
"I bet. Those damn doctors don't want to leave my bank account alone." He scoffed, annoyed at all the money that they asked for the surgeries. Lea laughed, maybe a little too loud because William's hand covered her mouth, when he removed it he put his finger against his lips.
"I think we should try to get some sleep." He whispered after she quieted down. Lea kissed him on the forehead, which always makes him cringe, and always made her laugh.
