Rain lightly hit the rooftops of houses, patting on the sides of windows, which left an earthy smell in the air. The only sound to be heard was that of rain, and the occasional car passing by.

The darkness of the night seemed to consume everything around it, except the glow of the street lamps. The light of the lamps glowed softly, bouncing off rain that had puddled on the ground, being left undisturbed.

Everyone was inside their houses sleeping. William, however, was outside talking a walk in the rain. He often took walks when he couldn't sleep, which some would consider weird, especially since it was the middle of the night.

He had to get out of the house, to put it simply. It was either take a walk or disturb everyone else, which usually never ended well.

Everything was quiet and calming, until his phone buzzed in his pocket. Carefully, William removed the phone, quickly reading the text. It was from Lea, obviously, and had asked where he was. Being the person he was, he didn't reply.

A few minutes later, his phone buzzed again. This time, he took out his phone annoyed, and read the text. Lea had asked the same question as before. He started to type something, but got a call before he could send it.

"Where are you?" Lea groggily asked through the phone.

"I'm taking a walk."

"Why?" William sighed, he thought it was self explanatory, apparently it wasn't.

"I couldn't sleep."

"Why didn't you wake me up?" She asked, yawning.

"I'll be back soon."

"That's not-" Before she could finish her sentence, William ended the call.  He sighed and looked at the sky.

It was dark and cloudy, but there was something calming about it.  Maybe it was the stillness of everything, or the slight rustle of the trees. It could've been the rain, or just the fact that he was alone with no distractions.

He sighed and turned around to go back home, knowing the earful he would get from Lea.

It didn't take very long to get back to the house, it was a half an hour maximum. He opened the door quietly, closing it with just as much caution.

When he made it upstairs, he slowly sat down on the bed, as to no disturb Lea, who appeared to be sleeping.

"Are you gonna answer me now?" Lea broke the silence, slightly startling William.

"What do you mean?"

"I'll take that as a no then." She replied, shifting her position, trying to get more comfortable.

"I didn't wake you up because I didn't want to disturb you."

"That's sweet." Lea stated sweetly, slightly smiling.

"Not really. I just didn't want a lecture on why I shouldn't go walking at night."

"Well you shouldn't."

"You act like I don't know how to protect myself." After his statement, Lea didn't say anything, being fully aware that he is more than capable of self defense.

"Hey, I've been meaning to tell you something."

"So now you want to change the topic?" Lea sighed and got out of bed.

"Never mind." William stared at her as she stood up and stretched.

"This is why I don't tell you anything." He mumbled under his breath, getting comfortable and trying to fall asleep.
