The month of January came and went, faster than anyone expected, but oh well. The kids have been back at school for a couple months, since break had ended long ago. Since it was February, the topic of Valentine's Day was floating in the air, almost like an airborne illness.

Everywhere you went, there was advertisements about the so called 'holiday'. In almost every shop, there was some sort of Valentine themed thing, whether it be a food, or some random object. Of course, Valentine's Day wasn't really celebrated in the household, which could be understandable.

Michael was getting older, as he was going to start high school next school year, so there was a lot of talk about Valentine's Day surrounding him. The thought of getting a Valentine never crossed his mind, not even once. He wasn't really one to believe that a middle school student should have a significant other, or anything close to it.

So when his friends started talking about it at lunch, he had already dismissed the silly idea, and zoned out of the conversation. See, Michael was pretty popular at school, (probably due to the fact his family had money), so it had gotten easier for him to block out the constant chatter that surrounded him.

"Did you hear anything I just said?" One of the boys at the table spoke at him, louder than he thought was considered respectful, but he just brushed it off.

"No, was it important?" The boy rolled his eyes, but continued his statement nonetheless.

"You know Eva doesn't have a Valentine, right?" It was Michael's turn to roll his eyes now. Eva was the girl everyone knew, and either liked or hated with a passion, she was mostly popular among the boys, for many reasons. Michael glanced over at her table, and caught eye contact for a spilt second.

"I heard she wants to go with ya!" He scoffed at the boy who seemed to be proud of this information.

"I could care less. We're literally in middle school, why would I care about a girl or not?"

"Dude! Are you crazy?!" Before Michael could answer, the bell blared through the lunch room, signaling that classes would be resuming soon. He wasted no time getting up from the table, and walking to class. There was nothing worse than this atmosphere of 'love', as they claimed.

Before he knew it, school was over, and he was getting in his dad's car. Students watched him, of course, but he was used to it by now. People that he didn't even socialize with would come up to him, just to talk about the family's fortune. It was something that really got on his nerves. Of course it gave him confidence, but he thought it was simply rude to walk up to someone and talk about their financial stability.

"How was school?" William inquired, cussing under his breath due to the driver in front of him.

"It was okay." He replied with slight annoyance in his voice. Michael told his father everything that happened at school, for some reason.

"I assume something's wrong?" Michael sighed, he didn't really want to share the whole Valentine issue, but he would get angry if he just bottled it up.

"There's this girl," William sighed very loudly, "Not like that! My friends keep pestering me about being this girl's Valentine. It's petty and I don't want to!" He finished the rest of his statement without an interruption.

"Tell them no then." William bluntly suggested, which made Michael groan, mostly in annoyance.

"I did! I even told the girl no, but they won't stop! They have no manners..."

"I don't really know what to do for you." Michael snapped his attention over to his father, who looked thoroughly annoyed.

"What do you mean?! This didn't happen to you?!" Michael loudly questioned, making William roll his eyes.
