Christmas, probably one of the largest commercial holidays, maybe in the world. It was cold outside, as one would expect for December. The snow was falling, gently landing on the tree branches, packing itself down. Everyone was happy, so it seemed.

Lea didn't want to get up and it had been like that for the past weeks. Nobody wanted to admit it but she was clingy, which could be considered petty. She had fallen into a depression of sorts. She was treated awfully, but always stuck around and apologized for something that wasn't her fault.

She laid in bed thinking about it, thinking about everything. Her thoughts were interrupted when Elizabeth came running into the room. There were a few more days until Christmas day, so her excitement was to be expected.

"What's wrong, pumpkin?" Lea groggily asked as she turned around to look at Elizabeth.

"Daddy's here! So is grandma!" She rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't dreaming, then slowly sat up.

"I see you're not thrilled to see me." William sarcastically pointed out, leaning against the frame of the door waiting for a response.

She didn't say anything, but tears started streaming down her cheeks. She almost fell off of the bed trying to get to him. Once she did, he slightly stumbled back because of how much force she threw at him.

"I thought you wouldn't be back so soon." Lea sobbed, holding onto him as if she would fall.

"They just gave me new medicine, I don't imagine it would take as long as the other stays."

"How do you feel?"

"Drunk." Lea picked her head up and looked at him.

"What do you mean you feel drunk?" He thought for a moment, trying to piece together the words.

"Like, I don't feel normal. It feels like this isn't my brain, I guess."

"So you're actually feeling?" Lea was astounded, only because the other times he returned there was no change visible, as hard as they tried.

"I mean, I don't really feel like I've gained any emotions, I just feel like something's changed." Lea hummed in acknowledgment and let go of him. She was so glad he was back, despite how toxic everyone else thought their relationship was.

Lea smiled at him and they both went downstairs. William's mom stared at Lea as they walked into the living room to join the rest of the family.

"You're still with that whore?" Violet insulted, looking disgusted that William was even that close to her.

"You're one to talk." He mumbled under his breath, catching the attention of his mother.

"Excuse me?"

"If anything you're the whore. You know how many men you brought home?" Violet made a dissatisfied noise but didn't answer, because she knew that it was very well true.

William sat down on one of the couches, followed by Lea. Elizabeth came running down the stairs, crying and screaming. Michael came down the stairs shortly after she did.

"Michael hit me!" Elizabeth wailed, running into the living room.

"No, I didn't!" Michael claimed, which may or may not have been true. There wasn't really any evidence to prove it, except for the red mark on her cheek.

"Michael, how are you going to say you didn't hit her when there is clearly a red mark on her face?" Michael glared at his father, trying to think of a comeback.

"Chris did it. She's blaming me!" Lea looked up from Elizabeth to look at Michael.

"You have to be joking. Chris can't even eat chicken without crying, what makes you think he's going to hit his sister?" William asked, making Michael scoff and look away.
