I was sitting in my living trying to come up with a way to tell Kirsten about the phone call. It was six forty and she'd be here by seven.
"You're worrying." I looked up at Althea who was now leaning up against the kitchen doorway. I sighed and turned back to face my laptop.
"Of course I'm worrying Althea. I have to tell Kirsten that Ozzy's mother, my psychotic ex it coming back to town for some odd reason," I groaned. I heard Althea's footsteps grow closer and then she sat on the corner of the corner of the coffee table.
"She will understand D. Kirsten's an understanding person." I agree with that....but it doesn't make it any easier. This was going to be just as hard for me as it's going to be for Kirsten and my boys. I don't know how I'm going to react once she gets here, I know I can't stop her from coming but I'd fight every demon in hell if it meant keeping Alex away from my son and brother.
"I'm just nervous," I huffed, my hands coming up to rub my temples. All of the stress was starting to give me a headache.
"I'm gonna go get you a drink and some pain killers," Althea whispered as she got off the table. She stopped and turned around once she reached the doorway.
"You know.....we're going to get through this." I looked up and gave her a smile. I was really lucky to have her herer. Althea came back in about five minutes with water and the painkillers. I took them and decided to lay down and relax a little.
"Corbyn's outside. I'll be home later. Good luck." Althea came over and kissed my cheek. I got up to hug her and then walked her to the door. When she opened up the door, Kirsten was standing there with her parka on. I was seriously dreading this moment.
"Oh hey Althea, you're leaving?" Kirsten's voice instantly felt me with guilt. It's not like I chose this, but still.
"Yeah, Corbyn's parked r-right over there." She pointed to Corbyn's car, Ruthy and Kaea waved. I waved along with Kirsten.
"Well I guess I'll see you another time." Althea nodded and waved at the both of us, running down the path to get into the car, sending me one last look. Once they drove off, I looked down at Kirsten.
"Hi petal," she cooed, leaning up to kiss me. I kissed back immediately, but pulled away shortly and she frowned. I pulled her inside and shut the door behind us.
"What's going on?" She asked, concern flooding in through her voice. I sighed and gestured to the sofa.
"Sit, can I get you a drink?" I asked her. Kirsten sent me a confused look and shook her head. I sat down next to her and was silent for a few moments before speaking.
"You know how I got that phone call yesterday at the studio?" I asked.
"Yeah." She dragged out cautiously.
"Why?"
"Well..." I turned to her and saw that she looked extremely worried right now.
"It was my ex Alex, Ozzy's mom. She wants to see me and the boys," I said, relief flooding into me at the same time as the anxiety built its way into my chest anticipating her response. Kirsten looked completely taken aback. She probably wasn't expecting something like that. She probably wasn't expecting something like that. She deeply frowned and stood up. I watched her pace back and forth slightly.
"I see," she started.
"And you agreed to it?" Her voice crack towards the end, she's really hurting.
"No, no, no baby," I stood up, stopping her movements.
"I tried to get out of it, but she was literally about to board a plane...." I trailed off and Kirsten slowly nodded."I'm so sorry." I frowned, putting my face into the crook of her neck. I heard her sigh but knew she was calm when she ran her fingers through my hair.
"We'll work through it," she said, which released the pressure that had been building in my chest. I wrapped my arms around her and started kissing all over her face.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," I repeated, making Kirsten giggle and fight to get out of my hold.
"No wonder why Althea was so awkward back there...she's never been good at keeping secrets, now it makes sense as to why she was so nervous!" She laughed wrapping her arms around my neck and I nodded.
"We both were. I didn't want to ruin your friendship because she knew and did tell you and I certainly didn't want to fuck up things with you," I confessed. Kirsten's features softened up and she pinched my cheeks.
"Aren't you just a cutie," she cooed leaning up to kiss my cheek.
"Now can we watch a bit of Criminal Minds?" She laughed, making me grin as well.
"Of course we can love, let me go order us some takeout." I kissed her forehead and headed into the kitchen. I phoned for the food and was getting us drinks when the phone started to ring.
Hello?" I answered without looking at the caller ID.
"Hi big brother!" I smiled hearing my younger brother's voice on the phone.
"Hey Luke what's up?" I asked, leaning against the counter. I heard him sigh on the other end of the line.
"I went to go see my dad again..." I sighed and looked up at the time.
"I know you were supposed to be with Kirsten tonight but....DD don't want to stay here." I don't want him to stay with that bastard anyways. I get that Luke wants a relationship, it's his father after all. But there's a reason the courts gave me custody of him at 18 years old.
"I'm gonna come get you," I said immediately.
"Wait on the porch and if he comes out looking for you...run to Chin and Izzy's, okay?" I asked making sure that she heard everything I said.
"I will. I love you, I don't know what I would do without a big brother like you."
