"Uh, Dan?" Kendall snapped her fingers in front of my face.
"Do you want me to answer it or....?" I shook my head, trying to snap out of the shock I was experiencing.
"Uhh, no."
"I'll leave her a message, I guess," I shrugged, trying to play it cool. But inside, my heart was beating against my chest, just at the thought of Kirsten.
"I didn't realize you two were close," Kendall states, a hint of jealousy in her voice.
"They aren't," Luke spoke up from the back seat, raising an eyebrow when I caught his gaze in the mirror. I didn't even know what to say. I was as confused as Kendall was at this point. I kept my eyes on the road and tried to calm myself down. Whatever Kirsten was calling me about was seriously triggering my anxiety.
"You okay?" Kendall asked as Luke and Maya walked ahead of us. I grabbed her hand and plaster a fake smile.
"I'm good." She smiled back, hesitantly, and I led her inside.
"I'll wait here. You go figure out what that was about," Kendall told me, sitting down next to Althea. I'm guessing Kaea went to bed or the kitchen or something.
"See what, what was about?" Althea asked, looking between Luke and me.
"Nothing," I answered quickly, probably quicker than I should have.
"It's no big deal. I'll be back in a minute." I ran upstairs as quickly as my feet would carry me. When I reached my room, I slammed the door and locked it. I paced around for a couple of minutes. Just thinking about what to say or how to act. I finally had the guts to do it and see what she wanted.
"Kirsten?" I asked when I heard that my call had been answered.
"N-no, Danny, It's Ruthy." My eyes widened when I heard her sniffling, and that's when I knew she was crying.
"Ruthy, what's wrong? What's happened?" I worried.
"Danny. Tony p-pulled Kirsten out of t-the club....h-he looked angry," she sobbed into the phone.
I felt my heartache at the thought of him hurting her, and I started to get all kinds of pissed off and worried.
"Where are you? Do you want me to come to get you? Why didn't she take her phone?" I asked so many questions, but it didn't compare to the amount that was running through my head.
"She left it here and told me to call you," she cried, her voice breaking at the end.
"I'm at the club on eighth."
I made sure that my car keys were still in my sweatshirt and was all set to go.
"Okay, I'm coming to get you. Where are the other girls?" I asked.
"They went home hours ago....they were really, really drunk."
"Ruthy, stay there. I'm coming to get you. Meet me at the coffee shop next door, okay? I'll be there soon."
"Okay, and Danny....."
"Yeah?"
"Thank you," she breathed. I knew she truly meant it. I'd always gotten along with Ruthy really well, and I hated hearing her upset.
"It's okay, Ruthy, I'll always be here for you," I revealed and hung up the phone.
I unlocked my door and nearly had a heart attack as I was met with Althea. She had her arms folded and her eyebrow raised at me in suspicion.
"Why is Kirsten calling you? We both saw her Snapchat," she grumbled, and I rolled my eyes.
"Not now, Althea, I need to go," I told her, trying to push past her, but she made me back up.
"No, Danny, not until you answer me!" She raised her voice.
"Althea, Ruthy needs me," I warned.
"She doesn't know who else to call." Althea's face softened but only slightly.
"Why?"
"Because she's worried about Kir-"
"No." Althea cut me off.
"I can't let you get yourself into more bullshit with her," she shook her head, laughing slightly.
"I mean, for fuck sake, Danny, she played you!" I frowned and lowered my head.
"Please just let me go, Althea," I pleaded.
"I need to do this." After a few moments, I heard Althea sigh, and she walked towards me. She wrapped her arms around my torso and rested her head on my chest.
"I'm sorry, I just worry. Please be careful." I rested my head on top of hers and squeezed her tight.
"I really need to go. Tell Kendall I'm sorry," I said as I rushed down the stairs and out the door. I just ignored all the questions being thrown at me and raced out to my car. All my thoughts were on Kirsten and her wellbeing. I've always hated Tony for how he treated Kirsten, so it just added fuel to my hate fire. I got to the coffee shop and spotted Ruthy in a red outfit, mascara clear on her cheeks as she got into the car.
"Where is she?" I asked, straight away.
"Is she at Tony's place?" Ruthy nodded and kept her head down.
"Where do we go?" I asked, and she gave me directions to his house. I silently prayed to myself that when we got to Tony's that Kirsten would be okay. That I wouldn't have to beat the ever-living shit out of Tony, even though I wanted to.
