"Sorry if she came on a bit strong back there," Ruthy apologized as we walked down her garden path, and I shook my head.

"Not at all. I'm honestly just glad that she likes me!" I chucked and turned to give her a genuine smile.

"I've missed you, ya know," I admitted, reaching out to intertwine our fingers. Ruthy grinned but avoided eye contact, and I could tell it's because she was nervous. God, I was anxious to. She's one of my best friends. So if this goes wrong, god, it would fuck everything up.

"I've missed you too," she spoke quietly and then looked at me. We reached the car, and I opened the door for her before getting into the driver's seat.

"We have a lot to talk about," Ruthy sighed sadly, keeping her eyes straight ahead. I nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, I know, starting with Seth." I raised an eyebrow, and she nodded. I started the engine and began driving when she spoke up.

"Uhm, can we skip the restaurant? I want to be somewhere a bit more silent, so we can talk?" She asked hesitantly. I shrugged. I wasn't bothered about where we went as long as we got the chance to talk.

"Anything you want." I smiled.

"How about we get some KFC and head down to the sea?" I suggested, which made Ruthy's face light up.

"That sounds wonderful." I reached over and put my hand on her thigh to give it a little squeeze. When I removed my hand in case it made her feel uncomfortable, she placed her hand on top of mine.

"This is okay," she said, rubbing her thumb over my knuckles. I hate to admit it, but I definitely shivered. She made me feel so.....alive.

"To tell you the truth, I've never really been big on dates. The whole restaurant scene makes me nervous," I admitted shyly. I tried to hide my blush when she "awed" at me.

"Don't worry, babe." she giggled. She leaned over to peck my cheek before her lips went to my ear.

"I get nervous too." I smiled to myself as I kept my eyes on the road. We ordered our food from the drive-through so that nobody would fully notice us, and then we headed for the beach. Once we got there, I grabbed a blanket from my car's trunk and grabbed our food. I set everything up and sat down next to her. We had some small talk while we ate, and we soon finished up. Now we had to move onto the more serious stuff that I knew I had to bring up.

"So....about, Seth." Ruthy cut me off.

"We were never together." I furrowed my eyebrows and went to question it, but she went on before I could.

"Seth's gay. He didn't want anyone to know, he's my best friend, and this was how I could help him sort out his feelings," she sighed. I could see Ruthy's shoulders relaxed. I had no idea that she was keeping all of this inside.

"Nobody knew. I couldn't exactly tell anyone." I kept my head down as I listened to her, not wanting to interrupt her, just letting her vent.

"I'd always thought, "maybe one day I'll find the one I'm supposed to be with,"" she laughed and then turned to face me.

"And then I met you." I looked up when she said that.

"I didn't know it right away, but a little while after knowing you, I realized, and well, it just clicked in my head. It was like an "oh so that's him," kinda thing. I've suddenly just realized how weird that sounds out loud," she cringed and hid her face. I chuckled and shook my head, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.

"No....I'm sorry I didn't see it sooner," I shrugged. The smile on my face couldn't be taken away by anything at this moment in time. After going through everything with Kirsten, this somehow feels right.

"I always thought you'd end up with Kirsten," Ruthy mumbled against my shoulder, which her head was now leaning on as we both gazed out at the waves.

"Honestly, so did I, and I don't regret a thing. How is she anyway?" I asked, only realizing I wasn't sure how Kirsten felt about Ruthy and I being together.

"She said she knew." Now that wasn't what I was expecting.

"She said that you and I were meant to be together, and that's why everything with Tony happened.....because she knew it was never going to work between you and her." Ruthy seemed to tense a little.

"You don't still blame her, do you?" I sighed and shook my head.

"I never blamed her." Ruthy lifted her head to look at me.

"I-I know that Kirsten was hurting way before she did what she did. It was a mistake. Forgive and forget, right?" I nudged her, and she grinned nodding.

"Right," she whispered. When her eyes locked with mine, I had to fight every urge in my body not to kiss her right here, right now. I wasn't sure if that's what she wanted or not.

"Don't hold back," she whispered, slowly leaning in. I did the same, and when our lips met, I swear it was the best feeling that I've ever experienced. Nothing could possibly get better than this moment. We pulled away, both blushing like it was our first kiss.

"We're both like kids, I swear," Ruthy winked, and we both laughed. I noticed immediately when she started to shiver.

"Do you want to go back to the car? It's a bit cold," I offered.

"No, no, this is too perfect," she answered, turning down the offer.

"I'll put up with the cold for a perfect moment with you," she whispered, and I couldn't help but smile at how cute she was.

"Come here," I said, pulling her to sit between my legs so I could wrap my arms around her. She leaned back into my embrace and sighed.

"Yeah. This really is perfect," she hummed.
