"So how'd things go with Danny?" Kyra asked pretty much seconds after we had first said hello to each other after a week being away with our families. We were all meeting at the airport and flying back to Auckland together.
"They went great," I smiled sarcastically and rolled my eyes.
"Really great," Kaea smirked.
"Oh, really?" She laughed.
"Good to know." I laughed and continued unpacking my stuff.
"What time's Kirsten's getting here?" Corbyn asked.
"How about now?" All three of our heads snapped over to my bedroom door, and there stood my best friend with a massive grin on her face. I've honestly been so nervous about seeing her. Maybe she's changed her mind about Danny and wants him back?
"Don't all rush over at once!" Kirsten mocked when we all froze. I got up first, hugging her.
"Woah, watch my blood circulation!" She joked, giggling against my shoulder.
"I missed you," I admitted. Kirsten hugged me even tighter after the comment, giving me a silent answer. She missed me too, and this wasn't awkward.
"Okay, lay off, Kirsty!" Corbyn grumbled, pulling me off of Kirsten so that she and Kyra could adequately greet her. After about five minutes, it all fell into place. I felt completely comfortable again. Now I'm not sure why I was so worried; I should have known Kirsten would be fine.
"I've got a surprise for you, by the way," she whispered into my ear when we walked over to the car. I tilted my head and gave her a weird look.
"You'll see!" She grinned as she skipped over to the car to put her suitcase in it. I had no idea what she had planned for me.
"Hurry up!" Kyra called when she noticed I was in a daydream. I flipped her off, causing them to laugh. I got into the car next to Kirsten, and we put some music on so that the trip to the airport wouldn't be so dull. The flight was the worst part for me. I've always been a nervous flyer.
"Here's your tickets, girls." Paul, our event manager, spoke and handed the plane tickets to Kaea, Corbyn, Kyra, and Kirsten. I was left confused and without a ticket.
"Uhm...am I not joining you this time or something?" I joked. The girls made a few jokey comments too about how they would kick me out the crew, which we got a few laughs.
"Oh, sorry, Ruthy, I must not have picked it up...I spoke to that woman at the desk" He pointed over to the girl he was referring to. I nodded and left my suitcase with the girls before heading over there.
"Hi Miss Pearce, what can I do for you?" The woman already knew who I was, which made things easier on my behalf.
"I'm actually looking for my ticket and seat number...my manager, said you might be able to help me out if he's misplaced it?" I asked politely. The woman nodded and went to typing on her computer.
"Oh." Her eyebrows knitted together, which told me that something had gone wrong.
"Someone has already taken your ticket...a boyfriend?" She asked, and I laughed.
"I um...I don't have a boyfriend", I insisted with a smile.
"Not yet." My head raised up in surprise at the voice which spoke from behind me. I turned around slowly, not fully believing it. And there he was. Still standing with that goofy smile on his face as he held up two plane tickets.
"You okay with sitting next to me or what?" Danny laughed when I stayed frozen.
"H-How did you, I mean what-"
"Surprise," Kirsten came out from behind Danny and smiled at me. I looked between the two.
"You guys...you guys are okay?" I asked in almost disbelief.
"Ru, I'm happy for you," Kirsten said. I looked into her eyes and knew that she was telling the truth.
"Honestly, I think I forced myself over you a long time ago," Kirsten said, directing it at Danny.
"I know," he smiled and gave her a one-handed hug.
"I'm glad you're doing fine, though."
"You too," she answered small before leaving to go with the girls.
"Kirsten!" I spoke louder to reach her. She whipped around and raised an eyebrow.
"Thank you!" Kirsten grinned and continued to make her way over to our crew. I turned back to face Danny. He looked so happy to see me. I couldn't help myself when I practically jumped on him. He stumbled back slightly.
"Woah...miss me, Pearce?" He chuckled. I pulled back and rolled my eyes playfully, a grin still plastered on my face.
"You wish Danny Boy." He intertwined my hand with his and led me over to his family, sitting at benches.
"Ruth!" Danny's grandma stood up and pulled me into a hug, welcoming me.
"Hi," I giggled nervously.
"It's nice to finally meet you, love," She grinned.
"I'm Elijah, Danny's big brother." The boy stood up and punched Danny on the arm. The two started messing around a little, and I laughed at them. They looked quite similar actually. Even though I wasn't aware that Danny had any other siblings, I'm sure anybody could tell that those two were related a mile away.
"Hi, Ruthy." Luke stood up and hugged me.
"Ruthy," Ozzy giggled, and I picked him up. He instantly wrapped his arms and legs around me.
"Hey, Lukey," I smiled warmly. Danny's gran gave the two boys trouble, and I had to laugh along with Luke at how playful Danny could be.
"Daniel, son, you all should head to the gate now," his gran said sternly. Danny nodded and went to hug her.
"All of my babies are leaving," she pouted.
"And now I have you to add to my list, eh Ruthy love," she joked, sending me a wink before pulling me into a warm hug.
"Grannnnn," Danny groaned in embarrassment. I giggled at how adorable he was when his face flushed red. I couldn't help but coo over him.
"Aww, my poor Danny Boy." Danny pushed my hands away when I grabbed his cheeks playfully and pouted. I laughed and pecked his lips a few times to make it disappear.
"Oh shit, cut it," Elijah said and stood right in front of Danny, separating us.
"Paps." Luke stood up and grabbed my hand. Ever since my career had been picking up again, papas have started following me around, Danny too. Why people care about what I do, I don't know, but apparently, they do.
"Come with me."
