The struggle was real.
"Do you need help?" was the only sentence I was receiving at the moment since everyone around me could see the struggle I was facing.
"No, thank you though." I said back as I gripped the books a little tighter. I didn't want them to fall, but they kept slipping and I knew at any moment they will be on the floor.
All the times I've carried books to classes, even heavy ones, I should know how to maintain to not struggle with them.
Even as a college student, I still can never learn.
I stood in front of the classroom door then looked down and noticed that there was no way for me to open the door without all the books falling out of my hands.
"Let me help you." I heard someone say as a guy opened the door for me.
I smiled. "Thanks." I walk in before he shut the door and left.
I looked around at everyone and noticed that there wasn't much room left. I saw one empty seat in the back and decided to take it before anyone else did.
As I was walking to the back, my foot collided with something and next thing I knew, I was on the floor.
I heard a few people laugh, but I ignored them. I felt someone grab my arm to help me up. "Thanks."
"Let me grab your books." I heard her say. I stood up and watched as she bent over and grabbed them. When she stood back up, she smiled at me. "Wanna sit with me?"
I nod as I wasn't going to deny her since she just helped me. I walked with her to a table and sat down. After she sat the books in front of me, I smiled over at her. "Thanks."
"No problem. I'm Kaylee." She smiled.
I smiled back. "Dakota."
"Nice name." She complimented.
I shrug as I wasn't a big fan of my name, but I've been stuck with it for twenty four years. It's one of those names that could belong to a male also, so there's another downside of having my name.
"Is this your last year?" Kaylee asked.
I nod. "Yeah, I'm a senior."
She smiles. "So am I. Thank God." She sighed. I chuckled as I watched her. "I'm so ready to leave this place. It's too much stress."
I nod as I agree with her. After a few moments, I heard some guy yell. "We have a new instructor ladies and gentlemen!"
"Why the hell are you screaming?" Some girl, right behind him, asked.
"To make sure everyone hears." He said as he turned around to face her.
Even from over here, I saw her roll her eyes. "Nobody cares, idiot."
I wanted to laugh as I watched their little interaction, then I heard Kaylee. "I wonder if the instructor is going to be a woman or man." I look over at her as I shrug.
"Does it matter?" I ask. "I mean, as long as they're not an ass."
She chuckled. "True. But I always prefer women over men."
I watch her for a moment. "Why is that?" She shrugs, but I think I had her figured out.
"My mom was an instructor here." She said. "I've had her class, and I had other women's classes, so I always prefer them over the men here." She shrugs again. "Not being sexist, I'm just saying."
I chuckle as I nod. "I gotcha." I look at her. "Who was your mom?"
"Jordan Grace."
I nod, again. "I think I had her class my freshmen year. Didn't she retire?" She nods then I nod also.
