I met up with Kaylee the next morning to grab some coffee before we went to class. I was laughing as we were walking out of Starbucks.
"Please just try some." I offered my drink as I held it out towards her but she just shook her head.
"No. I don't want your coffee, Dakota."
I smiled as we were on the sidewalk. "But it's good."
"For you. I don't like it that much." She said as she was looking both ways.
I stared at her. "Have you even tried it?" I asked.
She looked over at me. "Yes. My mom was an addict, remember?"
"So? That doesn't mean you ever tried it." I watched her.
She shrugged. "I tried it a little but I just didn't like it."
I shook my head as we both crossed the street and got on the other side to walk down the sidewalk towards the campus.
"So, how was your weekend with Emma?" Kaylee asked.
I told Kaylee about my weekend, and she couldn't wait for all the details.
We walked into campus and I smiled over at her. "She met my mom."
Kaylee stared at me. "She met her before I did? What the hell?"
"Chill." I chuckled.
"That's not fair, Dakota. Just because she's your girfriend doesn't mean anything. I am your best friend." She stopped and placed her hands on her hips.
I smiled at her. "You're really cute, Kaylee."
She crossed her arms. "Am not. I'm just saying how unfair it is."
"You can meet her." I said.
"When? Next time she's here?" She asked.
I smiled. "Actually, she's staying here all week. She's at my apartment. You can meet her after classes."
"Holy shit! Are you serious!" She yelled. I smiled as I nodded. "I can't wait!"
I stared at her for a moment as I watched a few people walk by staring at us. I shook my head as we walked around the corner and to the classroom.
I walked in with a smile on my face as I was expecting Emma standing in front. But she wasn't. It was another woman standing there, watching everyone walk in.
I sat down and stared at her as Kaylee sat next to me. She leaned over and whispered. "Where's Mrs. White?"
"I don't know." I said as I watch that woman smile at everyone.
Where the hell was Emma?
"I know some of you are confused because I'm not your instructor, but Mrs. White called in sick today and I will be taking her place." She wrote her name on the board and I looked over at Kaylee.
She gave me a confused look. "What happened yesterday? Weren't you with her?"
I nod. "Yes. She seemed fine to me. Maybe she got sick overnight?"
I was now worried about her. I didn't recieve a text from her this morning but I didn't think nothing of it. I took my phone out and sent her a text asking if she was ok.
I watched the woman explain something to us, but I wasn't paying attention. I kept glancing down at my phone every once in a few seconds in hopes that Emma would message me.
She never did.
When class ended, I pulled Kaylee to the side. "I am going over there."
"You're skipping classes?" She asked.
