You're so dark (an Alex Turner fanfic)

The family

They drove about one hour and a half till they finally reached the huge house in the middle of no where, framed in trees and a small lake next to it. Chris smiled as he saw Ruby's eyes widen when they drove the way to it and she saw the brick built mansion for the first time, with it's huge windows, the big garden with the huge and old trees.

 "Well...seems like his family got money " she said and looked at the two men.

 "Yep, my first thought when I visited Cate here for her birthday two years ago but they are all actually quite nice" Alex stated from the backseat.

 "How many people are there actually?"

 "Just the closer family members of both sides" Chris said and parked the car and got out.

 Both followed and Chris immediately got her luggage and she did not even try to protest against it.

 The walked up the bricked way to the black door with the golen lion head to knock. She looked up to the massive house that's just like you would imagine this typical british clichee. Some drops of rain started to fall down and the clouds could only mean a thunderstorm coming up. The door got opened and a mess of noises was the first thing they could hear. A woman, maybe 25 loked at them, she had dark brown hair and the same eyes as Alex, just a little darker. She wore some leggins with knitted socks and Arctic Monkeys shirt over it. She smiled bright when seeing Alex and before he could say hi she allready had her arms tight around his neck. He answered the hug lovely and then gave her a kiss on the cheek "Like your style Cat" he smiled and looked at the shirt she was obviosuly wearing for him. Ruby saw immediately that he was right, if they he told her she was his sister, she would have believed him without questioning. She felt a little ache in her heart, it reminded her of her own sister. But she locked that feeling away as quick as it came and smiled as Cate let go of Alex and turned to her now. She smiled bright at her and looked at her from head to toe then also gave her a hug. Cate smelled like Roses and Ruby couldn't help, but like her at first sight, it was obviously the same with the other woman "So you're Ruby, my god I'm so excited to meet you, dear! Alex told me so much about you, he called right after he met you to tell me how bewitched he was and that he did not know what to do and how he was falling for you and so on...I couldn't think that there could be a woman to make him act like that, but here you are!! You have to tell me everything! Oh god I'm so happy to have you both here!! Oh you fit perfectly together! And now I understand what he ment when he said he's a little scared to screw it because he never met someone like you-"

 "Cat...can we please get inside before you drown us in words?" Alex cut her off with a smile.

 Cate smiled and took Ruby's hand to pull her inside, not minding Alex and Chris who exchanged an amused look.

 Ruby was not quite sure what was happening, Cate was really nice to her, not like most people who saw her for the first time and she acted like they were allready best friends.

 She did not see much from the entrance because Cate pulled her straight into the huge and cozy decorated livingroom. Large red couches around a fireplace, huge windows and curtains with flower pattern was the first she could see together with a lot of books and paintings on the walls. But mostly she saw people. Maybe seven but she knew that more should be around. She was not anxious about meeting people, not at all, but she was still a little nervous and felt kinda lost when they all looked at her as soon as Cate pulled her into the room. It got quiet and Cate smiled winning.

 "Guys look who my monkey brought here!" she said and squeeze Ruby's hand.

 Alex smiled to himself as he saw that Ruby was not quite used to situations like that and quickly stepped next to her and took her hand as Cate stepped away again.

 Ruby smiled around and waved once with her tattoed arm that was exposed because she had put off her jaket and wore a cardigan with 3/4 arms over a black dress.

 "Hi I'm Ruby" she said sounding self confident and looked around.

 Pretty much all eyes of the people around were on her at that moment.

"Well Cat allready loves you" Alex stated as he opened the window in their guest room. They had quickly said hello downstairs and he told them that they would just get upstairs to put their stuff down and then get to them to talk an everything. He saw that Ruby wanted to have a moment alone and he could totally understand that. "She's nice, just like Chris..."

 "But..?"

 "I'm not quite the daughter in law that parents would pray for...I saw it in the eyes of those people downstairs...If it's my piercings or tattoos, I dunno...I'm just not quite sure what to expect when your parents will come back later and see me for the first time.

 She sat down on the large bed which sheets had also flowers on it.

 He climbed on the bed and knelt behind her, butting a kiss on her shoulder "They gonna love you!"

 he asured and hugged her softly to him.

 "Hmm...if you say so...the people downstairs were all kind of...shocked I guess..."

 "They were not shocked hun, they knew my last girlfriend, and she was nothing like you...she was...ordinary...give them some time to get to know you and I promise, they will like you lil' pumpkin"

 She signed and turned around to give him a hug "I'm just gonna believe you...and I'm hungry..." she said and smiled at him.

 "Well from my last visite I remember that there was a huge fridge in the kitchen..they should have a bit more in stock than a jar of peaches" he said smiling and stood up just like she did.

 They got down and he took her straight into the kitchen where no one was, they could hear the others talk in the living room. She leaned against the counter and as he got on the hunt for food.

 "How hungry?"

 "Hmm...just a lil' bit"

 "Ok...I spot some left over chicken in-"

 But he got interrupted by a knock at the door and the noise of it getting opened.

 A few seconds passed till he heared his mother speak "So where's my son?"

 "Kitchen" he heared Cat and gave Ruby a smile and nod.

 Seconds later his mother got into the room with a wide smile, she got immediately to Ruby and looked at her, then gave her a warm smile and a hug.

 Now she knew from whom he must have this need to get hugged.

 Ruby smiled at his mother as soon as she let her go.

 "It's so nice to finally meet you my dear! Don't even try to call me Mrs. Turner, for you I'm Penny, ok"

 Ruby smiled relieved of how nice his mum treated her "Ok" she answered and just got pulled into another hug from his mother.

 Ruby noticed that Alex had her eyes and it somhow made her smile to herself.

 "Great! I believe we will get to know each other over the weekend, I'm really happy that my son won't hide you away anymore" she oked and got a 'mum!" from Alex who his mother did not give one look yet.    She then turned to him and gave him also a hug "Good to see you honey"   he did not even protest, he knew his mother would never stop in calling him that. "Where's dad?" he asked as she also let him go again. "Still at Dave's they try to get the car fixed for tomorrow"

His mother left the kitchen with a wide smile so they could finally get some food. Alex leaned next to her at the counter as they ate the chicken.

 He looked carefully that she ate everything he prepared for her. Because he noticed that lately with the stress that was going on at the Tattoo Studio and also with playing at the pub and Bar she tend to skip some meals or just ate nothing, living literally on cigaretts and coffee.

 He was actually glad that they would spend this weekend far away from London, to get distraction, for both.

 She finished her drink when he leaned against her and poked her softly into her side "Ready for the horde?"

 She smiled and took his hand "Ready" she answered also with a smile and so they got into the livingroom.
