Ruby stepped out of the car and just like Alex' her eyes widened. It was literally a castle. It was beautifully framed by a small lake at the one side and a forrest around it at the other side.
"Wow...I also want a castle in Scotland!" she said as she looked at the beautiful old building.
"It's only rented!" the father of the bride said smiling as he stepped beside her "But you are right...it's really beautiful!"
He was a nice guy, accepted her from the first minute that Cate had introduced Ruby to her dad.
Not like some other familymembers of Alex' family who looked at her like if she would start to drink human blood in the next second or if they wouldn't be surprised if she started to talk with the dead. She hated it when people treat her like that and let her feel what they think of her. It's just because she's tattooed and got some piercings, but that's her, she won't change for anyone. So she simply ignored those people and kept talking with those who were nice to her, which were more.
They all got inside and it was just really beautifully decorated and so utterly scottish and romantic in there. There was kind of a library, a saloon and the bigger hall for the celebration. Tables with flowers were there for the people to sit and have dinner later on. It just really felt like they've been catapulted into the past.
"I'll get us some drinks...otherwise I won't stand those people!" he whispered into her ear and dissapeared into the direction of the small bar. She smiled to herself and got to a window with a perfect view over the lake and she could even spot some birds flying over it. Everyone stood around or sat at the table to chat but no one took note of her. She was even glad for that. How nice some familymembers were, so annoying or stupid were others. And suddenly as she stood there and heared all those voices smelled all those different parfumes of the women surrounding her, seing and feeling those people, the vibrant and flowing life that was nearly caging her, she felt sad suddenly. It's this sadness that hits you in the situation were you don't need it at all. She realised for once more that she was alone, that she had no family aymore, that there was no one who cared about her in the way a family does. She felt isolated and lonely all of the sudden and all she wanted then in this moment was sleep. Sleep allways helped. It was this sweet time of being unconcious and were everything just went blurry and you don't feel anything at all. She felt like being alone on this whole planet, except-
"-I hope you'll go with Gin Tonic, they don't really have-" but she turned around and hugged him tight. He had no idea what was going on but kept silent until she let go again and gave him a kiss. Feeling him and knowing he was there was all she needed to calm her thoughts again.
She then smiled at him and took the glass with the liquid in it "Thanks" she said, her mind felt a little better, like the dark clouds that were building have just been washed away by his' sunlight.
He looked a bit worried "Are you ok luv?"
She smiled "Sure!" and raised her glass a little and put it against his so it made a quiet sound
"I love you!" she said and gave him a kiss that tasted like alcohol after she took a sip of her drink. He smiled and took her hand "Wanna check next to whom we can have dinner later?"
She noded and so they got into the hall with the tables. They searched for their names on the tables and found out that they sat on a table with his parents and Dave, together with Isabella and her mother. The little girl's face lighted up immediately as she saw Alex and Ruby walk to them and gigled as Alex rouffled softly through her blonde hair.
'She will break many heart when she's older' was all Ruby thought.
They sat down and the little girl immediately started to tell Alex all about what's going on in her pre-school, what she's doing, about her pets and simply everything that's on a five year old mind. Ruby was happy to see him like that. He seemed so relaxed and how he listened to her, gave her his attention was really beautiful to watch. She never saw any other guy so confident with a child. Most people she knew had no idea on how to treat a child, herself included, she was never good with children. Not that she did not like them, but she was just not the person to do so. Isabella even reminded Ruby of herself when she was her age, when everything was still fine and nothing on this beautiful world would have made her think of the following years. She envied that girl, she was so full of life, hope and happiness. Kids were a mystery to her, maybe because her own childhood was stolen, maybe because she never really had the time to think of the things a child had in mind because everything she experienced when growing up and being passed from one orphanage to the other was that you sink or you swim. And she learned to swim after nearly drowning at first.
