"And that's really ok with you?" "Alex, of course it is! I mean why shouldn't it?" she smiled as he put a huge amount of sweets in the shopping basket.
" I'm sure it'll get fun" he said and put a kiss on her cheek, she could see how excited he was about the coming weekend.
"I think so too, but don't you think that's enough chocolate?"
Alex pouted at her "There can never be enough chocolate!"
"ok ok" she laughed and put some toast and bacon in the basket.
"I just want to do that right, you see" he said after a while where they< continued the shopping and filled th ebasket with all sorts of stuff.
Ruby smiled and gave him a kiss "We'll do fine, I'm sure of that, or at least you'll do everything perfectly fine" she said and made Alex smile as well.
When they bought everything they needed for the weekend they got back to their appartment to fix it a little and be home in time.*
It knocked on the door and Alex immediately jumped up and ran to the door. Ruby followed him and when he opened the door she saw two huge blue eyes, blonde hair and a huge smile when Isabella saw who would look after her for the weekend while her parents were away. "Ally!" she said happy and had her arms around him in the matter of seconds, but Alex was quicker, he was allready on his knees and hugging the small girl tight. She was six by now and Ruby knew how much Alex loved this girl.
He wasn't her uncle, but Dave, the girl's father was Alex' cousin and they had a good relationship. Ruby met all of them at the wedding, she had accompanied Alex some months ago.
When they ended their cuddle, Isabella turned to Ruby, and also gave her a hug, which Ruby answered of course.
"Hi Ruby." she said quietly and looked at the woman, who also got down to be one one eyelevel. "hey Bella how are you doing?"
"I'm fine" she said a little hesitating.
Ruby smiled at her "That's great" she answered and then got up to say hi to her father, Dave, his wife wan't even there, probably she was waiting in the car.
"Sorry, we can't stay, we're late allready, because a certain someone forgot her bag and we had to drive back on half the way" Dave said before Alex or Ruby could greet them, in a too sharp and too grupy tone for this situation.
Ruby felt how Isabella in front of her seemed to shrink a few centimeters and looked down, maybe her eyes were even filling with tears, Ruby couldn't see it because of the girl's hair.
She felt how anger started to fill her, what gave him the right to say it like that to his daughter. She hated when parents did something like that, blaming their child for no reason.
Isabella kept on facing her dad with her back and Ruby felt how tensed the situation suddenly was. She assumed that Dave and his wife had probably made unnessisay drama this morning and probably made isabella cry with that. Alex also sensed it and started to distract Dave with a few words of small talk.
Ruby put her hand softly down on the girl's shoulder, she wanted her to know that she was on her side.
Dave told Alex quickly about the business congress he and his wife were attending this weekend, when Ruby suddenly realised how Isabela was sobbing quietly. Ruby had liked her from the start at the wedding and Isabella also liked Ruby much, so when Ruby knelt down and saw some silent tears running down the girl's cheeks it felt like someone was thrusting a dagger through her heart.
Ruby carefully stroke some blond hair behind Isabellas ear to see her face. The girl looked at her, two big sad eyes. Ruby gave her a look, that made Isabella see that she understands and that Ruby would support her. She softly whiped away the tears on Isabellas face with her thumb and leaned to her ear "You're parents won't be here the whole weekend, it's only you, Alex and me. Let's forget about your parents during this time, ok?" Ruby whispered and saw how Isabella smiled again a little and noded slowely "Ok" she whispered very quietly so no one else would hear, but her dad did not even notice what his words did to the little one.
"And we have some great ideas what we could do together, if you like of course" she continued and felt that it was good to give the girl some happy perspective for the following days.
Ruby didn't even concentrate on what Dave and Alex were talking and she only heared a "yes, I have to go, we still have to drive two hours to the Hotel. Ok then, Isabella, see you on monday morning and behave!" Then Dave just noded at Alex and he was about to go.
Ruby's and Alex' jaws nearly dropped, did he just really leave without even saying properly good bye to his own daughter? Without even giving her a hug? Damn she was still only six.
Alex and Ruby exchanged a quick look.
"Bye Daddy" Isabella whispered quietly but was cut off by the door getting closed by her father.
Ruby saw how angry Alex was, he looked like he would love to run after his cousin and if nessicary beat him to say good bye to his daughter like a father should, but he knew drama only would make it worse.
The girl swallowed down her tears that were about to come up again and Alex immediately stepped behind her and put his hands on her shoulders, softly squeezing the girl's shoulders and looked at Ruby in front of her.
"Soooo...how about we first of all show you the whole appartment and where you can sleep, and then decide what to do with the rest of our day while we have some lunch" he asked, trying to sound as enthusiastic and positive as possible, but Ruby knew what he was thinking, but couldn't say because of the little on : 'what on earth made Dave turn into such an ass, and what Ruby and him could possibly do to make this weekend perfect for this little angel'
Isabella sniffed one last heartbreaking time and then smiled a little at Ruby and noded, then laid back her head and looked at Alex and also noded at him.
He smiled at her and softly whiped away what was left of her tears.
"But first, let's give you another hug, you're growing so damn fast. When we wake up tomorrow, you're probably allready taller than I am" he smiled and managed to make her laugh with his words.
Ruby's heart got melted even more when he gave Isabella another hug, softly stroking over her back and making sure that she knew, that Alex and Ruby wouldn't treat her like her father just did, that this weekend would become awesome for her.__
wrote this while on the way back home :) well this whole chapter 'weekend' that will come will hopefully melt all your hearts, i mean...just imagine Alex, please imagine him like that!!! :D
