"And then?" "What?"
"What happened after your little swim?!"
"Nothing"
"The 'I take her home to spend a night'-sort of nothing or.."
"NO! As I said Jamie, NOTHING happened! I mean yeah I accompanied her home but that was it. I went home, alone."
His friend thought for a moment. "And you really only sat there in the pool, watching London, drinking Margaritas and talked? In a pool, naked, talking, Alex Turner, no sex, only.."
- "Yes Jamie, we only talked"
"About what?"
"Everything I guess...I mean...we were in there for about two hours or so"
"And it was her idea?!"
"As I said, she took me there."
"And now? Are you dating or what?"
Alex took a deep breath, followed by a huge sip of his coffee. He was glad that Jamie had the time to meet for breakfast, he knew Jamie would listen and give him advice on how to act, what to do now.
Alex did not answer and Jamie immediately saw that there was more about all that meeting.
"Come on Al, tell me! What's bothering you? I mean as it seems she's hell of a woman, exactly what you've missed and allways wanted"
Alex noded slowely and took a bite from his toast "Yeah...you know I'm not quite finished with the story yet. I walked her home, even though she insisted that I would not have to, that she needed no guard. I actually wanted to call a taxi for us but she did not want that either so we walked. The house she lives in is actually not too shabby, I mean she's young and I really want to know where she's got the money to live here in London but she only told me about the piano job." He made a small pause to think of yesterday night. He had to smile to himself.
"As we got there I asked her if I'll see her again...she looked at me for some moments, stroke back some hair out of my face and gave me a kiss and she only said 'surprise me Sheffield-boy' " he looked at Jamie who had a wide smile on his face by that time.
"I mean...what does that mean? What does she want me to do? God...why do women have to be so damn complicated..?!"
Jamie also drank from his coffee "Let me quote Oscar Wilde here: ´ women are ment to be loved, not understood' And you Alex should not try to understand her! And instead do something she'll like. Take her out somewhere, spend an evening at some really great place or take her to our next concert"
"She does not know.."
Jamies eyes widened in disbelieve "What? You spent half a day with her and simply forget to tell her about the fact that you're no ordinary business guy or pizza delivery guy?"
"She said nothing about it and so I did the same...I mean...it's good not being recognised and I don't want her to think that I'm some famous asshole"
"But you are" Jamie joked and earned a grumpy look from Alex.
"Do whatever you think is best, but do something! Man you are falling for her, I can see that! And please don't make the mistake to let youself be in the way! As she said: Surprise her! You're a creative guy, you will find somehing to do!" Jamie tried to comfort his friend. He's never seen Alex so out of mind because of a woman and he was really curious about this Ruby. From wat Alex told him she was exactly the kind of girl Alex allways dreamt about and jamie got the feeling that Alex was acting like that because he was afraid to screw it up. She was like a riddle to Alex and he was afraid he could not solve it. Alex thought for a moment "thanks...I think I'm just gettin a little" -"a crush?" Jamie finished Alex' sentence and grined "Come on! You actually look like a horde of butterflies would fly around in your head! Do you even thik of anything else than her? I feel like I'm talking to my 16 year old teenage son and not Alex Turner" Jamie said laughing by Alex' facial expression.
Alex sighed. The answer would have been 'no' after that night at the pool he was reallly not able to think of anything else thann her. A picture of her was burned into his head, how they were in the water, she leaned her back against the wall, her arms on the edge of the ground, the margarita in her hand and the lights of the city only illuminating the skin of her that was not in the water. He could spot some tattoos, but of course he could not see them properly. There really happened nothing more that this small kiss before she got into the house, leaving him completely happy but also confused which was why he confide in Jamie.
"Do you have her number?"
Alex shoke his head.
"But you know where she lives?"
He noded.
"Then do it like her, pass her a not under the door where you will meet her, I think she'll like that"
Jamie said and smiled at Alex' face.
"You're a genious! Perfect! But where shall I take her? No pub, that's boring...I need something better...something unique.." ALex thought loud and why he did so he looked out of the window of the café. A red bus was driving away and now he ad free sight to the wall with posters that the bus was hiding previously and suddenly when he saw the poster he got THE idea on what to do and he knew she would love to go there.
