You're so dark (an Alex Turner fanfic)

nightmares

It knocked again, a little louder this time and Alex immediately got up and also turned on the lamp on his bed table. He opened the door to find a quietly sobbing Isabella, looking up to him with huge teary eyes, her cheeks all wet.
 She didn't even gave him the time to get on his knees, she immediately hugged his legs and continued crying.
 "Hey little Pupkin..." he said calming and stroke over her head and back, leaning down and looking into her wet eyes.
 "I...I had...a nightmare...." she sobbed and clawed her hands into the soft grey hoodie he wore.
 "Shhh...it's ok, you can stay here of course" he said softly and simply lifted her up and made her sit down on the bed. She was still sobbing a little and sniffed so heartbreaking that Ruby's heat broke completely.
 "come here" she said softly and lifted the blanket and the little girl immediately crawled under it. Ruby put her arms around the little one, who hugged her back and put her face against Ruby's chest. She stroke calming over Isabellas hair and put the huge blanket over her as well.
 Alex sat on the bed, watching them, having his hand on Isabellas back. No one talked for some moments, because both adults knew first Isabella needed to calm down, and indeed with Ruby's warm and caring imbrace she soon stopped sobbing and breathed calm again.
 "Where's the cat?" Alex asked quietly after a while.
 "Balcony" Ruby answered and kept on cuddeling the little one.
 Alex noded and got up, she heared how he opened the balcony door and soon he was back, a fur ball in his arms and placed him softly  between Ruby's and Isabellas legs.
 Ruby saw how Isabella smiled a little when she felt the cat and then how Alex also laid down again, cuddeling up to the little ones back and putting his arms around both his ladies.
 "You're feeling better?" he asked softly and put the duvet also over him.
 Isabella noded "Thank you..." she whispered.
 "It's alright lil' pumpkin" he said softly and Ruby looked into his eyes for a short moment and smiled at him, he was just so heartbraking cute caring for Isabella, like he was always caring for Ruby as well.
 He then started to humm quietly and both felt how Isabella relaxed and soon she breahed calm against Ruby's neck when Alex turned off the light and then back to her back.
 He searched for Ruby's hand and crossed fingers with her on the duvet.
 All felt warm, save and simply great. It felt like they were a real family, and it was what isabella needed now.
 "Sleep well my pumpkins..." Alex whispered  and felt how Ruby squeezed his hand softly "You too monkey" she answered and closed her eyes, all sleeping through to the next morning.
