Thanksgiving

The Main House, Hyannis Port

The whole Kennedy family were sitting round the table laughing and joking but Jack and Jackie sat there kind of silently alone with their thoughts.

“Ain’t that right Jack?” Teddy teased nudging his brother. Jack looked up from his food. “What?”

“Nixon sweats badly.”

“Eh yeah whatever.” Jack muttered.

Teddy glanced at Bobby. “So Jackie how’s Lee and Stash?” Bobby asked.

“They’re fine.” Jackie replied without looking up.

“Dear are you okay?” Rose asked kindly.

Jackie looked up and nodded before rushing out of the room. Jack abruptly stood up and followed.

“You two could you not just leave them alone.” Rose said glancing at Bobby and Teddy.

“We were only trying to get them to talk.”

Outside Jackie was standing watching the waves. From a distance Jack could see her crying. He quickly walked up to her and wrapped her in his arms. “It’s okay Jackie.”

“Oh Jack I’m sorry I just couldn’t face them.”

“I understand why don’t you go and wait in the car and I’ll tell them we’re going home.”

“Ok.”

Jack gently kissed her forehead before turning to go back into the house but he noticed Bobby and Teddy watching him from the window.

When he got back inside Eunice met him in the hall. “Jack are you okay?”

“I need to go home.”

Eunice hugged him. “Give Jackie my best and if you need to talk you know where to find me.”

“Thanks Eunice.”

“No problem.”

Jack smiled and headed to the car. As he got in Jackie was sitting staring out at the night sky. “Do you want to go a drive?”

Jackie nodded.

As they drove Jack switched the radio on. “I hope your all having a great thanksgiving.” The presenter said. Jack quickly turned it off.

“Jack do you think if we do adopt the public would be alright about it?”

“I don’t care kid….It’s no different than if we were to have one naturally.” Jack replied.

“But…”

“Jackie we would love it as our own the public can’t say anything against us.”

Jackie nodded.

“So you’ve been thinking about it?”

“Yes.”

“We’ll leave it for a while.”

Jackie nodded. “Let’s go home I’m tired.”

“Sure kid.”
