Alicia's POV

There was a haze like a shroud clouding my mind. Everything was black and slowly shifted to a grey fuzz. Like a television screen without cable hookup but more subtle. My hearing was not working properly either. I could hear voices but they were too muffled to understand. It sounded like people screaming or talking underwater. I could tell the male voices from the female ones but the words weren't clear enough to understand. There was a booming male voice. He sounded mad. Then a female voice. I could tell the difference between each one but their words just weren't clear.

I was awake but I couldn't move or speak. I felt like opening my eyes but my eyelids were just too heavy. My body and mind had betrayed me.

Is this what it feels like to be dead? Am I dead?

No.

I can feel someone squeezing my hand and patting my cheek. Their hands were icy cold and thin. All I could do was lay there frozen, willing myself to move. I tried squeezing the hand in mine.

No. Nothing.

I tried shaking my head.

Still nothing.

I tried to speak.

That didn't work either.

The voices I was hearing around me shifted a little. From muffled whispers to clear and loud. Suddenly my ears started ringing and I winced at the sound. It hurt. My head was throbbing. I groaned from the pain that erupted in my skull. Suddenly I could hear the voices calling out my name.

"Alicia... Alicia... I think she's waking up. Alicia... can you hear us?"

It was so loud. It was painful and awful. My eyes finally popped open.

"Shut up..." I croaked.
"Too.. loud..."

I swallowed. My mouth was bone dry. My tongue felt like sandpaper.

"It hurts." I whimpered.

A female voice was talking to me now.

"What hurts Alicia?"

"Everything... Everything hurts." I cried.

The booming male voice yelled. "Get the doctor!" I winced again.

"Stop it... Stop yelling."

"Alicia.. honey." Came the soft female voice again. That one didn't hurt so much.

"It's your mom honey, what happened?"

My eyes were starting to make shapes and colors appeared. I looked around the room confused at what I was seeing. Nothing made any sense. I blinked the blurry effect away a few times until I could see my mom and dads face. My mom looked like she had been crying and my dad looked angry.

"What...happened?" I asked, looking at my mom.

My mom looked at my dad and then back at me. She squeezed my hand.

"We were hoping you could tell us, sweetie. We don't know except you got sick." She said softly.

"Yeah, I puked. No big deal mom."
I said weakly, with tiredness in my voice.

"No, honey. You've been asleep, fighting a horrible infection for three days. The doctors said you had a tiny brain bleed which caused the coma."

"Where....am I? What coma?" I asked as I looked around the room.

"You're in the hospital. Sweetie, you've been asleep for three damn days!" My dad's voice boomed. I winced again.

"Dad, can.. m..mom please talk for now?" Dad gave me a hurtful look. "Just... till my h..head stops hurting." I attempted to smile at him.
