Lukes POV
I stood there watching as Alicia circled the SUV parked in my driveway cautiously. She acted as if it would jump out and bite her. Jake stood beside me grinning wildly. Obviously happy with himself. If he only knew the amount of guilt that was piling up within her for receiving such an outrageous gift. He meant well. I know that. But this is too much. Even for Jake. I couldn't help but feel a little jealous too. I mean, he bought her a brand new Equinox. It was powder blue with chrome everywhere. It had two sunroofs and apparently also had a remote starter. Alicia screamed and jumped back when it roared to life while she was peering through the window. Jake laughed as he watched her nearly pee her pants.
"Jake! This is too much. Take it back! I can't in my own good conscience accept this. It's way too expensive."
"No, I can't take it back. It's completely paid for anyway. So get over it would you already?" Jake argued.
Alicia looked at me silently pleading for my help to talk some sense into my best friend. But I knew Jake. He wouldn't take no for an answer. I gave her an apologetic look and she stomped her foot.
"Just get in and let's take it for a spin Alicia. I promise you will love it." Jake pushed her toward the driver side door and opened it for her. She protested but eventually resigned all the fight left within her and sat down. I climbed in behind her while Jake took the front passenger seat.
He pointed out to her all the amenities."Its got GPS, rear backup camera, a cd player, Bluetooth, and hands-free calling. Oh! And also heated seats and mirrors. I got you a serious XM satellite membership so you can listen to your favorite music. It also has On Star in case of emergencies too."
"Jake, this is really way too much. All these buttons. I feel like I'm sitting in the cockpit of an airplane." She looked around in awe.
"Let's drive," Jake said impatiently.
"Fine. But if I wreck it, it's on you, Jake." She warned as she buckled her seatbelt.
She glanced at me through the rearview mirror and put the car in reverse. Suddenly an image popped up in the rearview mirror and she squealed.
"What the hell!"
"That's the backup camera silly." Jake laughed in amusement.
"See, as you back up you can see if there's anything behind the vehicle. It's also helpful when you need to parallel park or back out of a tight parking space."
"Well, that's... kind of awesome. I guess." She responded.
Once we got on the road and she made a few turns through the neighborhood she looked more relaxed.
"Let's go to the store to get you a few things for the house," I spoke up.
"Umm okay, Luke." She replied.
She drove us to Zona. The outdoor shopping mall. It has everything there. As she parked in the parking garage Jake couldn't hold his excitement back any longer.
"So, what do you think princess? Do you like it?" He asked.
"Its really nice Jake. Thanks." She blushed.
I could tell she still thought it to be too much but she couldn't refuse him. She knew it would crush his pride. So she graciously accepted.
"But don't buy me anything else do you hear me, Jake? Nothing else!" She threatened.
