Not Good, Not Better
I sat quietly at one side while I watched the four people talked about their business.
"We need to come up with a unique interface," Gabriel sighed in frustration.
"What if we stick to the original interface?" Maureen suggested. "We can pursuade NXT Corp. that the interface is not that difficult to use. People of nowadays are knowledgeable of computers, anyway."
"The easiest interface would look like an html page with nothing but hyperlinks. Siguradong hindi gugustuhin ng target market 'yon," dagdag naman ni Reylan.
Napatingin sa akin si Gabriel. Unlike, before, I managed to look at him directly in the eye.
"Miss Monteniel..." He called.
Tumayo ako at lumapit sa kanya. "Yes, Mr. Vernan."
He turned his laptop towards me. I saw the same interface I've seen during his last meeting with the CEO of that company. However, this is the first time that I paid attention to its details.
His interface reflected him... very complex.
Mahirap intindihin....
It's color was in grayscale with little texts to input commands or enter programs. Technically speaking, it's a nice interface.
"What can you say?" He asked me, sternly.
"Surely, it is aesthetically appealing," I started. "However, complicated."
"Sinasabi mo 'yan kasi wala ka namang alam," ani Maureen. Tinapunan ko siya ng matatalim na tingin. Atribida ang babaeng 'to!
I rolled my eyes.
"Go on, Miss Monteniel. I'm listening," Gabriel commanded.
"Gabriel," Maureen protested. "She knows nothing of this."
Ang sarap umirap pero hindi ko ginawa. Instead, I gave my resting bitch expression.
"You're planning to change the whole interface of the system. I understand you want to make it better. Although, the interface is quite complicated. There are no icons but texts arranged in a circle. Hindi kaya mabigla ang mga gagamit nito?" Wika ko.
"Tingnan mo. The moment you point the arrow on a specific text, it would enlarge," ani Reylan.
"But, not that large enough," sabi ko. "Paano kung matatanda ang gagamit? Paano kung hindi na nila mababasa ang maliliit na letra? It would take time for them to search for a folder or app they're looking for."
"Palibhasa kasi wala kang alam," ani Reylan.
"Supposing all the people are like me. Walang alam sa computer. Hahayaan mo na lang bang bumili sila ng gadget na may komplikadong interface? It will be useless for they don't know how to use it," sabi ko upang maintindihan nila ang punto ko. "It could've been better if we use pictures or icons. Atleast, kahit batang hindi pa marunong magbasa malalaman niya kung ano ang pipindutin. I also suggest to not completely lose the previous interface. Why don't you just incorporate the previous and your new interface? And, one more thing, is the system a closed system?"
"Not entirely. We only approved limited and verified applications to interfere with the system," si Maureen na ang sumagot.
"Why? Do you you have any problem with that?" Napahalukipkip na ngayon si Gabriel.
