Eavesdropping is Way Too Bad

A R Y A

"OMG! Brian Christian Harvard has a girlfriend?! When the heck did all of this happen?"

How the heck did the news spread this fast?

That blabbermouth of a chief librarian!

But why do I feel like a deer caught in the headlight? Its not like I'm really his girlfriend.

Surely enough, when I got to the classroom Jadey was prattling worriedly saying, "Who's the lucky girl?! I bet she seduced Brian in bed!"

Ugh, she can get through one's nerves sometimes.

I choked on the water that I was drinking at that moment. Oh Jadey if you only knew the truth.

"Hey Arya!"

"R-Royce what's up?" I gave him a high five.

"Hey did you know about Raul's gang?" He sat near me.

"Uh, uh...yeah what about them?"

"Rumors are circulating, saying that they were sent to jail this time for destroying the library, and the president was so frustrated. The parents of the gang begged to let them off the hook but the president won't let the issue go."

"O-oh..." I stated silently as I contemplated on the results of our actions.

"Here's the thing, they said that Brian Christian Harvard from the third year witnessed the crime, with his girl-"

I didn't let Royce finish. I automatically ran to the third floor. What if the gang decided to get back at us, or at Brian in particular?!

Without thinking how I got there, I went to Brian's classroom but before I could even reach his room I stopped in my tracks.

I saw Brian with a girl in the corner, near the door of their classroom. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but I heard them anyway because again, of the close proximity.

"Is your arm okay? What were you thinking getting involved with Raul's gang anyway?" A concerned voice said, probably the girl's.

"It's none of your business, I'm fine." Brian calmly replied.

I was surprised, I thought he would scold this girl and tell her off lije the other girls. Is she special?

"Is it true?" The girl started.

"What?" Brian said.

"That you finally have a girlfriend?" I heard a tinge of anxiousness from the girl's voice.

"Where did you hear that silly rumor?" Brian sounded surprised.

Same reaction as I had this morning, apparently he thought that the Chief librarian could be trusted.

"Around, it's the talk of the day you know. So is it true?"

Brian seemed to ponder for a moment then added. "No it's not true."

He was denying the rumor! I don't know why but I felt a bit disappointed. Yesterday he was so... different. And now he's like this.

I shouldn't be disappointed! I should be happy, him clearing the rumor would get my name off the hook too? But why was I like this? Why do I feel sad?

I suddenly wanted to get out of that place. I didn't want to hear this conversation anymore.
