Arya's First Price

A R Y A

We were walking around the campus and tried very hard to remain unnoticed. I glanced around my surroundings.

To say that the school was packed was an understatement. There were students and teachers eating here and there, trying out games and watching movies. Visitors from outside were also allowed to come in. I even saw students from other schools joining in the fun.

The different clubs were very creative and innovative, they thought of different gimmicks to attract the attention of the crowd and of course, to contribute to the fund raising. It seemed like everyone was having a good time, well except for me. I feel nauseated.

I gripped Brian's arm to signal him to slow down, thankfully, he obliged.

"What's the matter?" His voice sounded worried. I must've looked really pale right now.

"I-I'm not so good with crowds," I admitted.

To my surprise, he pulled me closer.

"Relax, just imagine the campus is empty. It's just the two of us walking and all these people are just fleeting ghosts." He said reassuringly.

What he said put me at ease. This person could really be helpful sometimes.

"Well why don't we try that game over there to help you get your mind off things?" He pointed at a shooting booth. I nodded, too queasy to say anything.

When we reach the shooting booth, we were instantly greeted by a friendly man. He explained the rules to us and gave us a toy gun that shot out little pellets and all we had to do was shoot the little figurines. There were fifteen pellets in each gun, if we were able to hit fifteen small figurines we would have the jackpot prize.

The smaller the figurines we hit, the more valuable the prizes we get.

It seemed simple enough, I started shooting and so did Brian beside me. From the distance we were shooting, the small figurines looked really hard to hit.

Brian was good. He aimed for the small figurines right from the start. He already hit seven small figurines while I was still on my first.

I should not lose to Brian that easily, so I stopped gawking at him and resumed my shooting. I tried to aim for the small figurines but in the end, I just hit five large figurines, two medium ones and one small figurine. Hey! At least I hit one!

Brian, on the other hand, hit fourteen small figurines. He was definitely proud of himself. Too proud if I may say, that arrogant bastard, annoying brat. Why did he have to be so better than me?

We hurriedly got our prizes separately and started walking to find another booth to try, but I couldn't help it and started to get busy with my prize.

"What prize did you get?" He stared at me curiously.

"Chocolate bars." I grinned and offered him one but he refused and guffawed.

"My! You really suck don't you?" He appeared amused by my defeat.

"Shut up! It's my first time shooting toy guns! You're a boy, of course you're good at that game! It's so unfair." I stuck my tongue out at him. That only seemed to make him happier.

"Make sure you clean out that chocolate stuck on your teeth, Kid" He snickered.

My face became tomato-red. CAN I BE SWALLOWED BY THE EARTH RIGHT NOW?

"What did you get?" I tried hard to hide my embarrassment by changing the subject.

"A cute stuffEd bear, would you like to have it?It's so cute and lovely it literally wants to hug you" He exclaimed while wiggling the teddy's arms at me.
