Tris P.O.V.
Christina comes over and we do each other's make up. I do hers first. She pulls up pinterest on her phone and shows me how she wants her hair and make up. I begin by pulling her hairback in a french braid that wraps around her head. I finish by covering her eyelids in a pinkish-red color and put red lipstick on her lips. Next, I put black mascara and eyeliner on her. Finally, I add blush that looks perfect with her dark skin tone.
Then, It's my turn. Christina curls my hair so it falls just past my shoulders. Then she makes me close me eyes. When I'm allowed to open, I see that I have on a pink lip gloss and an amazing smoky eye. For once, I look kind of pretty.
We hurry to put on our dresses and Chrisitina rushes home. Will will be picking her up there and Eric is going to pick me up here.
My doorbell rings and I jump up off where I'm sitting on the couch to answer it. Eric stands on the other side wearing a suit that matches my dress. My mother takes picture of us and my father just stands there and watches us. When we leave, he tells us to be home by midnight. I don't know if I'll be home by then but I agree and hurry to Eric's car. When we leave, he takes me to a nice restaraunt and finally, we end up at our school's gym.
When we walk in, I'm stunned. The dance comittee has done an amazing job. There is a stage on the opposite side of the room. There's a DJ up there and there's also a throne for the homecoming court. In the middle of the room, there is a dance floor with tables with white clothes on them surrounding it. Next to the door, there is a table set up with refreshments. There are blue and white streamers hanging from the roof. There are also blue and white silk sheets hanging on the walls. Balloons are on the edge of the stage and on the corners of the dance floor. There are also flower arrangements on the tables.
Eric guides me over to all my friends. Uriah and Marlene are making googly eyes at each other. Zeke picks up a grape and throws it at them. Christina and Will are on the dance floor with the crowd of other people who will end up using all of their energy within the first hour of the dance. Four sits with Lauren at the table. Lauren is talking but Four has a bored look on his face. He glances up at my and his mouth falls open. Lauren catches this and waves her hand in front of his face to get his attention. He begins to talk to her but is still staring at me.
"Hi, guys. Are these two seats taken?" I ask, knowing that they're not.
"Of course not. You don't think we would forget about you would we," Uriah says after Zeke breaks his attention away from Marlene. I laugh and sit down, Eric trailing after me. We chat and Will and Christina joining us after a while. I pull Eric up, though, and we walk over to the dance floor. I put my arms around his neck and his hands find their spot on my waist. We begin to sway along with the music.
"Are you enjoying the dance, Tris?" Eric asks me.
"Yes, I am. Are you, Eric?' I ask.
"Yes, I couldn't think of anyone who is would a more perfect date," he tells me. I look into his eyes and see his unique look of love. I have seen this look on his face very few times, but when I do, I know that he means it. He leans down at kisses me. We pull apart after a few seconds, and when I lean back I see Four staring at us. The hurt in his eyes, not well hidden.
Eric and I dance for another hour before we decide to go back and sit down. I tell everyone that I'm going to the bathroom. I walk in and someone follows me. I'm about to go into a stall when someone stands in my way. I look up and see Lauren standing there.
"Stop it," she says. I'm instantly confused by what she is talking about. I'm pretty sure that she isn't talking about peeing, though.
"Um, Lauren, Can you be more specific? If you won't, than please move. I really don't want to pee myself," I explain. She just stands there looking at me. I slide to my right and she slides that way, too. I slide back to the left and she's there before I can blink. She looks at me for a few more minutes.
"Lauren, listen. I really need to pee so you can go back to staring at me once I get out." She doesn't move.
"Stop," she repeats.
"Okay, Lauren. My bladder will not being hold its contents for you. Please explain before I release punch all over you," I say.
She bends down to my eye level and says, "Stop it. Stop flirting with him. I don't care what is going on between you two but stop it." She stares at me and I get it. She wants me to stop pulling Four's attention away from her.
"Lauren, I'm sorry. I don't mean to pulling away Four's atten-" I start.
"You're right, you are," she says as she walks out. I pee and think about what just happened. I knew that Lauren was having some problems with Four but I don't mean to be flirting with him. I din't even realize I was. I walk out and see that Lauren has pulled Four away from the table and next to the punch bowl. I sit down and begin talking with everyone.
After a while, the DJ announces that there is going to be a special dance. Everyone looks over at him and he doesn't seem bothered. He explains that the dance is going to be one of the dances where you dance with someone elses date. Eric gets up and asks some girl I don't know. All of my friends end up together and I sit alone. Four walks over to me and asks me to dance. I get up and put my arms around his neck. He puts his hands on my waist and we sway on the edge of the crowd. Lauren gives me a dirty look over her partner's shoulder.
"Thank you for dancing with me, Tris," Four whispers.
"Well, thank you for inviting me to dance with you," I respond.
"No, really. Thank you. It's so nice getting away from Lauren. I shouldn't have asked her here. She is so annoying," he says. I laugh and he smiles at me.
"Well, I'm very sorry that you wasted your homecoming dream on her," I say. He gives me a sad look at that.
"Tris, I'm really sorry about that night. I should have told you everything then and there. Please, come over tomight and I'll tell you, and everyone else, eveything. You all are the most important people in the world to me," Four says. I look up into his eyes and I see pure regret. I can see the sadness he is hiding in his eyes. He really means what he's saying.
"Four, I was wrong. You don't need to tell us things like that to be our friend," I say.
"Tris, you and those seven other people are the most important people in the world to me. I need you all to know who I really am," he says.
The next thing I know, his lips have crahed into mine.
