It was the first real all nighter Hyunsoo had ever pulled, and she didn't even try. The night was full of turns and twists, or sitting up and trying to get comfortable in her bed. Every so often she would feel annoyed and growl silently before throwing herself back onto the bed. When the sun finally rose, she decided to give up trying to sleep and started getting ready.
Hyunsoo felt her head spinning as she got changed, nearly collapsing on the floor. Where was this coming from? She had never felt like this before, but then again she did stay up all night. Maybe it was the effects of the all nighter.
If it wasn't for the fact that she felt so exhausted, Hyunsoo would've gone straight to Darcy's room to have a little chat with him about last night. She didn't want to wait until after she ran into Jungkook, because she knew it was going to happen somehow one way or another. It's been happening all week suddenly after meeting him during try outs, which was really weird since Hyunsoo didn't remember seeing him before.
With a grunt, she went on the student website from the uni and checked for future assignments. There was one she was particularly searching for, a major assignment that was due months later. It was only briefly mentioned in the last lecture, but they were told that it would be further explained closer to Christmas time. Hyunsoo didn't want to wait that long, she needed to know what she had to be doing for every assignment, rather than waiting to be told.
She quickly searched for her tutor's email and sent him a short message to make an appointment for today if it was possible. The reply came rather quickly. It turned out he received quite a few emails containing questions about this big assignment, so instead of a one to one meeting, he booked a room and told all the students to show up if they wanted the information for the assignment. Of course, Hyunsoo decided to go.
"Your projects should show proof of the involvement of either your friends or family, even strangers are included, with their permission of course. You have a lot of time until the deadline, but it's good to start focusing on this now so you can have a fully developed plan ready by January to finish by mid February." The lecturer was making eye contact with everyone in the room one by one. "Remember, your final piece should be focused on others, not yourself. I want to know how you see other people, and I want you to show this to me through your art project."
It turned out at least a quarter of the class had emailed the tutor in the last week, so here they were all together, listening to the outline of the assignment.
"I already know who I'll be focusing on," said one of Jungkook's fangirls a row ahead of Hyunsoo.
It was the same girls from Tuesday, who were shunned by Jungkook himself, and yet here they were continuing to admire him. What was wrong with them? Jungkook? Seriously? To be honest, she was more surprised of the fact that the girls were even here. Then again, so was Jungkook.
Hyunsoo turned around just an inch to look at Jungkook's side profile on her far right. He had walked in last, so it was more surprising since Hyunsoo had just given up the thought that he was turning up, and then, he actually came.
It wasn't that she was waiting for him or anything, Hyunsoo reminded herself, she just needed to ask him about last night.
"Hyunsoo, do you have an idea of what you'll be doing?" asked the girl sat next to Hyunsoo. Her name was Minseo. She always had her ponytail up high with black hair.
"Nope," answered Hyunsoo.
The tutor had just finished speaking and was beginning to shut down the computer quickly and pick up his belongings to leave. Wow, they're worse than students sometimes.
"I have an idea but not sure if I'll do it or not, basically I'm thinking of basing my project on another artist doing their own project," she said, looking excited and satisfied with her idea.
"Interesting." She was too busy watching their tutor leave through the door. Once he was gone, she looked at Minseo and asked, "Which artist are you interested in using?"
"Hey Minseo, we could use each other. I mean, we're artists, are we not?"
That voice. Hyunsoo spun to her side to find Jungkook smirking down at her. Why did he come here? She thought. What does he want?
"Oh, um," stuttered Minseo. She seemed pretty flustered. "I can ask for you if it's possible to do that."
Hyunsoo rolled her eyes, while Jungkook's eyebrows were raised.
"No need," he said, "I think I have a better idea now. Could you excuse Hyunsoo and I for a minute?"
Minseo's eyes widened, as if she just heard the juiciest rumour in town, and then she quickly stood up with her bag and left the room completely. This seemed to be normal Minseo behaviour. It wasn't the first time she had acted like this, and it certainly wasn't going to be the last.
"What is it?" asked Hyunsoo right away.
Jungkook, instead of answering, took his time to go around and sit on Minseo's seat, before looking at Hyunsoo carefully and saying, "I came to tell you why I texted the apology."
Hyunsoo didn't say anything. The words were caught in her throat, so she swallowed and waited for him to continue.
"That moment when I heard you telling Baekhyun to meet so you could break up, I don't know what came over me, but I felt a little angry. A month ago, I found out Jieun was cheating on me. It hurt a lot, but I managed to catch her at it early on and broke things off between us."
Hyunsoo listened intently, but there was a throbbing in her head. She didn't know what it was so ended up ignoring it. Instead, she couldn't help but focus closely on Jungkook's expression. It looked so fallen, as if gravity was pulling on him way too hard.
"I don't understand how... maybe I recognised his voice on the phone, but I somehow knew that maybe this is the guy my ex got together with. After that, I couldn't let it go, which is why I showed up that night. Look, I really am sorry for intruding on a personal matter, I just couldn't take it. I've had my trust in people broken so many times, it ends up hurting more each time."
Hyunsoo couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was Jungkook opening up a little right now? He was apologising and seemed to really mean it.
"Oh and don't take this the wrong way and think that we're going to be the best of buddies now, I'm going to continue treating you the way I do so don't expect anything. I just take my apologies seriously is all. If you speak of this to anyone though, then." Jungkook made a gun with his hand and shot Hyunsoo with it.
At that same moment, the throbbing in Hyunsoo's head started hurting, making her grab her head in agony.
If it hadn't been so painful, Hyunsoo would have started laughing, because it must have looked really funny from an outsider's point of view. Watching someone shoot with their hand and the reaction from that is actually real, except it didn't come from the hand gun.
Hyunsoo could feel herself spinning, or was she imagining it? It was almost unbearable, but she managed not to scream. Whatever it was, Hyunsoo found herself fall unconscious so quickly, she didn't even have time to register the person picking her up to avoid the fall.
