Fresh air was what Hyunsoo needed the most at the moment. The thoughts of what had just happened earlier with Jae weren't leaving her alone. The whole thing just seemed so surreal, it was as if she hadn't really been there to experience it. She had no idea Jae would go to this extend just to prove to Jungkook that he was in charge here, and everywhere else. And, why was Jae going after her suddenly? He never bothered to pay much attention to her before, other than when her mother wanted Jae to talk to her during Father's birthday party.
Hyunsoo sighed to herself. The chattering all around her was starting to get annoying. Maybe if she stepped out for a little bit, took time to unwind, she'd feel much better and like herself again.
Jimin had been trying to cheer her up ever since they reached the snack and beverages table, but the truth was Hyunsoo didn't want to be cheered up. She wanted to think clearly about what happened and move on from it. She didn't want this to affect her. This was why Hyunsoo ended up stopping Jimin mid sentence, before saying to him, "I'm going out to the balcony for a while. I think some time out from all this noise will help me."
"Do you want me to come?" he asked, looking concerned.
"No, I'd like to go alone. Thanks though," she replied. Jimin nodded, still looking worried. Hyunsoo started checking around to find where the closest balcony was. It turned out to be on the other end of the hall. "I'll see you later." She smiled, then started making her way down the hall.
Once she got there, Hyunsoo noticed that there wasn't a single person outside, or at least that's what it seemed like when she stood at the balcony door. This was good, because she really needed to get out of the crowd and breathe a little, not having to constantly keep up with her mask that kept reminding her 'I am the daughter of a rich family, so I have to behave like this'.
However, as soon as Hyunsoo stepped foot outside, she noticed instantly that she wasn't alone as she'd hoped to be. Jungkook was standing at the very corner of the balcony, leaning against the handrail and looking at up at the sky. There was a slight breeze and it was already quite dark now, so the stars were visible, except there didn't seem to be that many tonight. Jungkook appeared to be in deep thought. He kept his eyes up at the night sky, unaware that Hyunsoo was right behind him.
She was about to nudge him, wanting to alert him that she was also here, and to thank him, like she did to Jimin, for helping her out against Jae. But, when Hyunsoo got even closer, she noticed a cloud of smoke escape Jungkook's mouth. Right after that, he put a pill into his mouth and took a flask out from his inner blazer pocket, drinking its contents.
"Jungkook?" she said, without giving herself time to register or question what she had just witnessed. Although, she didn't need to a second later. Jungkook had spun around with a surprised look on his face, holding a little rolled up piece of paper... meaning it could only be one thing. "What are you doing?" she added, the shock evident in her voice.
"What am I doing? What are you doing out here?" he retorted, putting the flask back in the pocket.
"Are you trying to get high again? Why? Jimin told me your father forces you, but right now I can see that you're choosing to continue!"
Jungkook's eyes widened after hearing this, and then sighed in annoyance turning back to look up at the sky. "Interested now, are we?"
"I don't understand why you're doing this."
"Look, I don't know why you're bothering to ask when you can't even deal with your own family," said Jungkook.
"Oh, and here I was coming to thank you for what you did," said Hyunsoo acidly.
"Hmph, please." He rested his head on his hand that was plopped on the rail. For a moment, Hyunsoo thought his eyes became unfocused, before they went back to normal. "So how's running away from your problems going now then? Enjoying the Jae-free balcony?"
