Jungkook was with her. Again.
Hyunsoo lifted her head up from the sofa and looked around to find Jungkook sitting on her bed with his phone pressed to his ears. His back was towards her, but his voice was as clear as the morning sky outside.
"We'll do it again sometime, don't you worry about that. You were really hot." Jungkook was chuckling quietly.
Hyunsoo nearly chocked on her saliva hearing him talk like that... on her bed. Why was he there in the first place? Did he sleep over? And had she been sleeping on the sofa even though this is her bedroom?
Having heard her, Jungkook turned around with a funny look on his face. He gave her a rogue smile, not wearing even a hint of guilt on his expression. "So Hyunsoo, you're finally awake," he said in a smooth voice. "Took you long enough."
Instead of responding, she pulled a disgusted face at him and started to get up, realising that she had been sleeping in her dress. What exactly happened after she fell? She couldn't remember anything, and she hated not knowing. It scared her.
"Huh? Jungkook, what are you doing?" said the girly voice on the phone, sounding a little envious. Hyunsoo thought she might have recognised the voice, but wasn't too sure.
"Nothing. I'll catch you later." He hung up without even a goodbye.
Hyunsoo had already gone over to where Jungkook was sitting cross-legged on her bed and stared at him. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked.
"Uh, I believe I should be hearing a 'thank you' from you, considering how I took care of you all night." Jungkook wasn't smiling anymore, but his voice still contained something that told Hyunsoo he found this situation amusing.
"I'll show my gratitude once you tell me everything that happened."
"Cold," commented Jungkook. "Of course I will. What did you think? I'd leave you confused like this? Not when we're partners in crime, no way."
Hyunsoo softened up. She couldn't be annoyed with him when he was acting all happy and playful. After all, he did take care of her. Why else would he be here? Maybe she was just a little flustered seeing him on her bed like that; maybe that was why her guard went up suddenly. "Ok, fine. Tell me everything," she said. Then looking down at the floor, she mumbled, "Thanks."
"Pardon? What was that?" Jungkook laughed. "I'd like to hear that again please, on recording."
Hyunsoo rolled her eyes and finally smiled a little, though she tried to hide it. No way was she allowing herself to physically relax in front of him when he was casually on her bed like it was no big thing. "Just tell me what happened now, and would you get off? Why did you sleep here while I slept on the sofa?"
Jungkook shrugged. "Wanted to start a tradition. I always get the bed." He eyed her mischievously. "Unless you want to join me one day."
Her cheeks turned pink. "No! Just, just-"
Jungkook burst into laughter once again. He was enjoying this way too much. Still, he moved to sit at the edge of the bed with his feet on the ground now, urging her to sit beside him, which she did. She also gave him a little punch on the side due to her own embarrassment.
Finally, once he finished laughing and Hyunsoo was done being flustered at the bed situation, Jungkook started telling her what had happened from the moment she unexpectedly fell unconscious.
Father had immediately left to find the footman, in order to call a doctor to the house, and then followed Jungkook up to the top floor where they laid Hyunsoo down on her bed. It hadn't taken too long for the doctor to arrive, and it turned out that her parents had switched to a different private doctor, since the one Hyunsoo was used to wasn't described by Jungkook.
"He was the one from the hospital that day. You know, when we went A&E? He even recognised you somehow. I never got to speak to him when he checked you back then, but this time he told me that this happens due a build up of stress." He looked at her seriously then. "Is it because of this family business? Or something else? Or just a lot of things put together? That last one makes the most sense actually."
"I'm not sure to be honest..." She trailed off, looking down and feeling very conscious of Jungkook's eyes on her. "I didn't take it very seriously the first time," she admitted, "and now I don't know how to feel since I hardly remember what happened. I'm just confused mostly."
He finally looked away and gave a slight nod. "I guess there's no point thinking about it right now then. Just, you know, be careful I guess. Anyway..."
Hyunsoo was in deep thought. He was right. There was something Jungkook wasn't saying directly, but Hyunsoo understood it. And he was right. Her falling unconscious for the second time couldn't be just a cause of stress, could it? What if there was more to it? Maybe she needed to get checked properly, in case there's another problem... or maybe, she was thinking too much into it.
She breathed out heavily in frustration. Why were there so many questions?
Jungkook then continued telling her about how her father had already left by the time Doctor Lee was going through his little procedure, and how it was just him and the housemaid that stayed by her side until the doctor had finished.
"I never saw your dad again after that, so I guessed he wouldn't come checking if I had left or not either. That's what prompted me to take the responsibility of moving you over to the sofa and resting off from the dramatic night you gave me." That playful tone had returned to his voice.
Hyunsoo would've done her usual eye roll, but she was busy thinking about how Father hadn't even come to check if she was alright after the doctor had left. Well, what did she expect? It was normal like this. She would've been surprised if he had come back up.
Hyunsoo's eyes widened when she remembered someone else. "Does my mother know about any of this?" asked Hyunsoo.
"Not that I know of. The housemaid came early morning-"
"Yeonhee. Her name is Yeonhee."
"Right. Yeonhee came to let me know that I should probably not leave through the front door because your mum doesn't want to see me. Apparently, she complained about me to all the workers here. I'm guessing I didn't make the best impression with her then."
Hyunsoo had to laugh at that. It was just ridiculous hearing Jungkook even wondering about his first impression with Mother. "What did you expect? After the way you acted in front of her?"
"Not sure. I just wanted to get rid of Jae mostly." He wasn't laughing exactly, but his voice got lighter, like it was on the edge of laughter, after hearing Hyunsoo.
However, hearing Jae's name made Hyunsoo go back to being straight faced. "We need to deal with Jae somehow. I have a feeling he and I will be forced to talk again by my mother. She wants us together, even appointed me as his 'entertainer' last night."
"Little does he know that you're already working the job title for someone else."
Hyunsoo looked at him. She knew he was joking, given the smirk that danced on his face. So instead of reacting the way she normally would have, which is telling him to leave already, she pulled her arm back and punched him with medium strength on the arm to show just what he deserved after saying that.
Unfortunately, that didn't go as planned.
Jungkook faced his whole body towards her just in time to catch Hyunsoo by the wrist in order to hold her in place, not even allowing her to be able to punch his chest instead.
She couldn't help but gasp when he moved quickly like that, which made Jungkook smirk down at her. Though before anyone had a chance to say anything, there was a second gasp, which came from neither of them.
"Oh my god," said Kenny. "I'm so sorry, the door was opened for some reason, and.... the message, something urgent... I, uh, I'll just be outside." He stopped on his way out with his face turned away. "Please hurry, like I said, it's urgent."
As soon as he was gone, Jungkook looked her in the eyes and said, "Has he ever heard of privacy?"
"Says you!" She pushed him away and got up, hearing him chuckle. She needed to step outside anyway now. Her face was burning hot with different shades of red.
