Jungkook walked towards a girl he'd been eyeing since the moment he'd entered the building. He picked up a drink smoothly from the tray held by one of the workers who was carrying it around for the guests, and then stopped in front of a red haired girl wearing a long slim red dress to match her hair. She definitely stood out from the others here, so it was no wonder Jungkook made his way to her first. Jimin glanced sideways and realised Hyunsoo was also watching him.
The only thing they ended up hearing between Jungkook and the girl was the exchange of names, which in the girl's case was Rose, everything else continued in whispers. There was no point continuing to see what would happen, so Jimin moved closer to Hyunsoo and asked, "Are you sure everything is okay? You know you can talk to me."
"It's nothing too important," she answered, though she didn't sound convincing at all.
Not wanting to push the subject, but still wanting to make sure everything is alright, he asked, "How have you been doing nowadays? There was that issue with Jungkook before the holidays, so I'm just checking up that you're doing alright."
Hyunsoo gave him a slight smile and replied, "It's been fine. Nothing much has happened, especially at home, I've just been really bored..."
"I know this might be a bad time, but it seems important to ask right now. Do you know how Jungkook is doing recently?"
Jimin felt really guilty for asking, but there was a possibility that his behaviour today was linked to... Jimin shook his head. Hopefully not. But, he knew Hyunsoo cared, so maybe if he helped her find out what might be happening... he thought back to what he had told Hyunsoo during their last badminton practice.
"I do need to worry, because I know Jungkook. And this is not coming from someone who doesn't even get along with him anymore, this comes from Taehyung and Yoongi too. We've spoken together about him, even though Yoongi is still kind of against me, like Jungkook, but he's talking for the sake of his best friend. We think Jungkook is in deeper trouble than anyone thought."
Jimin wondered whether Hyunsoo had thought about what he'd told her that day. Yoongi and Taehyung had agreed with him that Jungkook seemed a little more on edge recently, so there must be some family issues going on. When something deeply troubles Jungkook, he'd usually keep it to himself and try to sort it out without bothering anyone. No matter what he shows himself as, Jungkook was kind on the inside. He didn't want to trouble others and make them have to deal with Jungkook's problems. Jimin could relate to that in a way no one else could. Yoongi was worried because he was closest to Jungkook, but he didn't even know what was happening. Taehyung was concerned about Jungkook's health drug-wise. He was suspicious... something Jimin might have to confirm today.
The truth was, Jimin was secretly afraid. The past still haunted him in some way, and he hated how things had turned out, but no matter what he'd gone through, Jimin knew that somewhere deep down Jungkook must've gone through hell as well. He just couldn't bring himself to hate Jungkook, especially after knowing the position he was in before their fall out. Still, none of this excused Jungkook's attitude tonight, so he was annoyed with him, and felt bad for Hyunsoo, while not even knowing the situation between them. He knew there was definitely something going on, and it seemed serious, he just couldn't figure out what.
"He's good as well," said Hyunsoo finally. "Just might have some things going on for him, since he's acting like a douche right now, but other than that he seems fine." Hyunsoo said it lightly, but Jimin could tell she was hurt by the way Jungkook treated her.
He felt like he needed to change the topic now, before things got too depressing between them. Jimin hated it when he brought the mood down, just because he was worried and wanted to try and help. He wanted to make everyone smile instead.
"Ah, so you know how I told you about my parents moving to a new house? Well, they have a great back garden now! It would be great if we could get together and play a few matches before going back into the hardcore practices with Mr. Grumpy Coach."
Hyunsoo giggled and genuinely looked happy for the first time this evening. Jimin smiled back in relief. He had managed to make her happy.
"I would love that! I'm just not sure when I'd be able to come, considering the restrictions my mother has added this time." She told him about the punishment of reading books from their home library, but when Jimin asked why she was being punished in the first place, Hyunsoo looked flustered and didn't say anything for a while.
Luckily, she didn't have to say anything at all, because in that exact same moment, they got distracted by an update from Jungkook's side drama. Jae had turned up out of nowhere and slid his hands all around Rose's waist, before grabbing and pulling her away from Jungkook, into his own arms. Anyone could tell from Rose's expression that she was living for these kinds of moments.
"Jungkook," said Jae, taking the drink from Rose's hand. It was the drink Jungkook had offered her when he got there. Jae sipped it slowly, keeping his eyes on his enemy. "Nice choice of beverage. Glad you could make it. I have to say, it was a hassle trying to invite you, since you rejected the offer first time round."
Hyunsoo's mouth dropped open. She probably hadn't really believed that Jae would invite Jungkook. Jimin, on the other hand, didn't really know Jae, but it was easy to read him from afar, which is why it became very obvious what he was trying to do. Though, Hyunsoo looked a little lost next to him.
A smirk, which Jungkook must've mastered since the beginning of time, was displayed clearly on his face, when he said, "Your welcome, anything to come have some fun. Rose here was helping me with just that."
Jimin could've sworn Jae's eyebrow twitched for a split second, but it happened so fast he wasn't sure anymore. Hyunsoo had stiffened up now, watching the scene unfold before them. They were at a good distance, not too close to get Jae to notice them, but not too far for them to not hear anything either.
Jae smiled slowly, playing with Rose's hair with his now free hand. The glass had transported itself onto a plate being carried by the worker next to them. "Oh really, well I'm surprised. Usually she's not a very good girl."
"Of course. I like them nasty, and I know when I see one." He winked at Rose.
Jimin cringed and Hyunsoo winced. If this had been in the past, and Hyunsoo wasn't involved, the young Jimin would have found this comedic, but right now this was irritating.
Rose was blushing and batted her eyelashes at Jungkook, which seemed to anger Jae, and it showed, but he kept it under control. Instead of blowing up, he dropped the hand stroking Rose's hair and started gesturing around the room. "You have so much choice here, why not try find some more and let's see how it goes, shall we?"
Hyunsoo, just like Jimin, didn't want to listen to anymore of their rubbish, so she turned her back on Jungkook and Jae, before expressing her frustration and confusion. "Why the hell did Jae invite Jungkook for? He acts like he only looks down on him, so why bring him here?"
Jimin shrugged, but then said, "I'm not too surprised. I mean, I don't know Jae, but judging from what I saw, I think he's feeling threatened."
"Threatened?"
"Over the amount of girls he can get. I'm guessing Jae just wanted to show Jungkook who's boss. He probably thought bringing Jungkook into his own party would work in his favour since all the guests belong to him in a way. That's how he seems to see it. Obviously, he doesn't know our Jungkook at all."
Jimin hoped she had failed to notice how he'd accidentally called Jungkook 'our'. Hyunsoo's eyes had glinted the moment he'd said it though, so she most likely had noticed, but just didn't say anything.
"Woah, you got all that from seeing Jae once?" said Hyunsoo instead, looking surprised.
Once again, they got interrupted, by Jungkook alone. He had come over to them, and behind him Jae and Rose were walking away, his hand still around her waist.
