Chapter 58

Jae was imitating Jungkook's smirk, holding Rose close to him and looking his opponent up and down. "If I give you Rose, will you let me take Hyunsoo? You two seemed quite close during our previous encounter. I'd very much enjoy myself tonight if you accept this exchange."

Jungkook stared at him for a few seconds in complete silence. How dare this creep think he can control everyone as he pleased? He thought, feeling a temptation to punch the badly worn smirk out of Jae. Jungkook was already beyond irritated, and Jae was just accelerating that now. Words couldn't describe what exactly he was feeling, but part of it was annoyance at himself too.

"I think I'll just leave you to tend to your guests. We'll speak later," said Jungkook. There was no need to give him a direct answer. That was enough to make Jae back off.

Without waiting for a response, Jungkook started to turn away and ended up staggering to his side, though he saved himself from falling by putting the palms of his hands on the round table next to him and pushing himself back up. Hyunsoo and Jimin hadn't been watching him yet, Jungkook checked, feeling partly relieved, though they took notice of him right after that. He knew that he wasn't able to control himself on the outside, but at least his thoughts weren't completely off on the inside. Still, he didn't think that he wouldn't even be able to walk properly without feeling off balance. It felt as if all the colour had drained from the building, it was just blocks of silver and red, and people's facial expressions were blurring out by the second. He never felt this far gone before... something was wrong...

Hyunsoo and Jimin glanced at each other just as Jungkook stopped in front of them. They waited for him to speak first, though Hyunsoo didn't really have anything to say to him anyway, not after the way he acted with her.

Jungkook eyed Jimin coldly, and was about to leave again, when Jimin stopped him and started saying, "Look, I know you didn't come here to have your own fun, it's just not like you. You're here to do something important with Hyunsoo, right? I don't know what's going on, but you need to stop acting so conceited, get a grip, and just, just..." Jimin made direct eye contact with Jungkook at that moment and hesitated. "Are you really that far gone?"

Jungkook, without saying a single word, pushed Jimin out of the way and stood beside Hyunsoo. "I want you to steal Jae's phone. It's the only way we can find out the date for the board meeting."

Hyunsoo was torn between looking out for Jimin or discussing the plan with Jungkook, though she caught Jimin's 'go on' expression and decided to focus on the topic at hand for now. "And how exactly do you expect me to take his phone?"

He shrugged, but answered, "Wait for my signal. I'm sure you'll think of a lovely way to get your hands on his rotten device. Until then, enjoy yourself." Then, he left before anyone could stop him again.

Hyunsoo shut her eyes in frustration. So now he wanted to work together? Did he think he can just come back and continue where they left off, before going back to treating her like she was nothing to him?

She felt a hand rub her left shoulder softly, and opened her eyes to find Jimin looking at her. "I have something to tell you about Jungkook. But before that, I want to ask you once more, what are you two up to?" He looked down, dropping his hand, and then smiled. "I understand if you don't want to share though, so it will be the last time I ask. I just, I want to help you. I want you to trust and rely on me, and I will do the same. Judging from today, it seems like we need someone by our side, so, if you don't mind, can I be that someone for you? Because I'd like you to be my someone."

Hyunsoo smiled back a little shyly. She could feel that his words really came from the heart. There was a hint of nervousness hidden behind him asking her this as well. Unlike Jungkook, Jimin seemed to actually want to get to know Hyunsoo properly, and become really close. Why shouldn't Hyunsoo trust him? There was no particular reason not to.
