Hyunsoo's first thought was why is Jungkook so mysterious? Her next thought went to how Jimin seemed to still care about Jungkook enough to be worried and talk about it. Behind all their cold looks and anger towards each other, maybe they missed one another?
Once Hyunsoo processed this through her brain, she realised with a jolt what Jimin was actually saying to her. Jungkook was in deep trouble. What could be deeper than what she already knows? To be honest, she didn't actually know anything. He hadn't told her that part when he explained himself. All Hyunsoo knew was that there was a group Jungkook was involved with somehow, and that they were rivals to her family and wanted dirt on them.
"What do you mean?" Hyunsoo asked Jimin. "What kind of trouble?"
He shrugged. "If I knew properly what was going on right now I still wouldn't tell you, because it's quite a huge deal and... based from what I knew in the past and what it led up to, I don't want to repeat a mistake only to have something bad happen like when Jungkook and I ended up breaking our friendship."
Hyunsoo breathed in and looked around. She didn't want anyone random overhearing their conversation, especially Jungkook, who would have gotten annoyed that they were talking about him. He would be even more angry at the fact that it's Jimin doing the talking.
"If you don't tell me I guess I'll have to find out myself, but I don't think you should brood over what happened in the past so much. Weren't you guys in middle school? You've both matured enough to let whatever it was go, I hope. I mean, I don't even know what this big issue was..." Hyunsoo stopped to take a breath and calm herself. She was rambling, she realised. "What I'm trying to get at is that I think there's a part of you that, um, still cares about Jungkook. Don't you feel it?"
It was a risk, talking about Jungkook and Jimin's relationship directly and questioning him on it. She didn't really expect an honest answer, but since he had brought the topic up himself, she tried anyway.
"I don't know," said Jimin, not meeting her eyes. "I just want him to stop acting like everything is fine when in reality he might be suffering right now."
That basically just proved that he cares, thought Hyunsoo to herself, deciding not to voice this out loud. Jimin was looking uncomfortable talking about it so she changed the topic back to Jungkook's whatever trouble it was that he got himself into.
There was a short pause just as the coach's whistle blew and everyone started their next match. "If he's in trouble, then he needs help," said Hyunsoo, moving towards the side with Jimin to not get in anyone else's way.
At that same time, she caught Jungkook's eye from the other end of the court. Maybe he was wondering why they were talking for so long? Because the expression he had was not only curious, but it looked like he was trying not to show it, as if he was trying to stop himself from looking their way.
Jimin nodded at what Hyunsoo said. "That's why I came to talk to you. I'm not asking you to do anything like what happened between you and Jungkook, but I want you to just be careful and keep a look out for anything suspicious."
Hyunsoo yelped and jumped back unexpectedly. It happened so quickly Jimin hadn't even registered what was going on until Hyunsoo was rubbing her leg as she looked around with a frown on her face. A shuttlecock had just hit her hard on the side.
Hyunsoo couldn't even say anything about it to Jimin, or about what they were originally saying, because right then, the coach came up to them and stared sternly until both got a move on and started a match. The coach was quite scary sometimes, so there was no way they could risk talking as they played at times like these. They needed to focus completely and try their best, rather than get distracted.
The next day, Jungkook and Hyunsoo had their Fine Arts lecture together, and although they didn't sit with each other, Jungkook had come to see her at the end and asked if they could walk back home together. His house came along the way to Hyunsoo's house, so naturally she agreed.
It looked as if Jungkook had something exciting to say because once she said yes, he smirked and told her, "I came up with a plan."
Hyunsoo didn't say anything but gave him the I-expect-great-things kind of look, as they made their way outside the building and onto the path that led them towards the student estate houses behind the campus.
"So what is it?" asked Hyunsoo.
"We are going to team up together, and have Darcy included whenever we need his skills, to try and end the rivalry between our families."
Hyunsoo stopped in her tracks. "Wait, what did you just say?"
Jungkook looked back at her and rolled his eyes. "Why're you confused? I said—"
Hyunsoo cut him and said, "Between our families? What do you mean by that?"
"Oh," he said, the excitement dying in his tone. "The person I mentioned that I was having problems with, who led me to do that stuff to you, is actually my dad. I told you he's a business man, didn't I?"
"Yeah... but not what for!"
"Well, now you know. That's not even the big thing I was going to reveal. In order to work together as a team, you'll have to know a few things about me to understand the things I put up with." said Jungkook, urging Hyunsoo to walk on as they talked. "This is kind of weird to just suddenly say, but I want you to know that I'm completely fine being open about it, it's just not something everyone knows though."
Hyunsoo didn't really know whether she should encourage him or not. He seemed fine with talking about it, so she decided to stay quiet. Instead, she couldn't stop the shock from getting to her, causing her brain to run a million miles per hour with questions of his background.
"I'm also adopted, since middle school, which is usually a rarer one." Jungkook was trying to talk casually the way he usually did, but Hyunsoo could sense that there was sadness in his voice. "The one thing I won't talk to you about is the topic of my real parents. That's off limits. Otherwise, we can discuss the whole family thing whenever we do something about this rivalry business, because let me tell you, it's driving me nuts on my end."
