Jungkook was trying to get through the crowd that had built up in the lounge room of the house. He was careful to make sure he didn't push past anyone as he navigated his way to find Hyunsoo, especially since he was holding a drink in his hand that he picked up from one of the footmen on his way down the stairs.
The not-so-much-of-a-surprise birthday party was under way, and Hyunsoo had gone down first to start greeting her parent's guests, which was a part of the job that came with being their daughter. She had already dressed up for the occasion, wearing her velvet red dress. It went down to her knees and (Jungkook thought) really brought out the colours of her eyes, which were honey brown. The moment Hyunsoo had left him upstairs, Jungkook started getting ready in the private guest bathroom. He hadn't changed into a suit when coming to see Hyunsoo early afternoon, so that's all he needed to do now. He wore a dark navy blazer with matching trousers, black shoes and a white shirt. Simple, yet dashing, he thought.
Now that he was downstairs, there was no way of knowing where Hyunsoo was waiting for him, or where he should be waiting for her. Having no other choice - except for standing around and not doing anything - he decided this was the perfect time to mingle, because he was Jeon Jungkook after all. Who was he if he didn't take this opportunity to talk to the women here? He locked his eyes on target and started making his way to a lone looking lady by the side, when his ears caught a flat plummy voice mentioning someone familiar.
"-didn't realise Jae was called to my husband's office this afternoon. Seokjin was already here..."
The conversation was quickly blocked by another nearby conversation, and Jungkook looked around quickly to find them again. This woman had mentioned Jae, the rude guy that had looked down on Jungkook when they met just hours earlier. He twisted around so fast in an attempt to go back and find the woman, the glass in his hand ended up throwing itself onto someone's front and then to the ground in pieces. People nearby stopped talking and stared, in complete surprise, at the scene about to unfold in front of them.
"How dare you!" screeched the middle aged woman in shock. Jungkook was a little happy to hear it was the same voice as the one who mentioned Jae. "Who are you? And who invited you?" She was staring at him like he was a bug she wanted to badly step on. And probably for the right reasons... as Jungkook had ended up spilling his drink all over her dark grey dress.
That little happiness he had immediately faded when Jungkook realised that this was possibly Hyunsoo's mum. They had the same kind of hair and noses, and the facial features in general were on the softer side. He already thought he needed to get away and not cause trouble at a place like this, but now this thought became even more urgent. In fact, he was getting a sinking feeling that this might possibly be the first and last party he would attend hosted by this family.
Think Jungkook, think!
Hyunsoo had found Jungkook in the crowd the moment his glass had hit the floor. This was going to become the family gossip, she could tell from the way everyone made wide-eyed expressions to each other, like they were excited something dramatic had finally happened this evening. It was understandable, since Hyunsoo too had been bored out of her mind fake smiling and making small talk with everyone ever since she had left Jungkook to come down about two hours ago.
The family footman had appeared with a dustpan, looking all tall and refined in his own suit that the workers at the house usually wore during occasions. Hyunsoo could see Yeonhee looking slightly concerned, but kept herself steady when going through the crowd as she scanned the area where the glass had broken, in case they had missed any other tiny glass shards that could harm someone. Slowly, Hyunsoo moved a little closer to get a better view of Jungkook and her mother. There was such an awkward atmosphere building up around them and spreading around the whole room.
