At the park, Hyunsoo and Jimin managed to plan a lot of what they wanted to do for the dance and art piece. They hadn't been the only ones there though, since there seemed to be two others sitting in the giant round swing, which looked as if it could fit about two more people onto it. Still, Hyunsoo hadn't exactly paid too much attention to them and went straight for the cleanest grassy area they could find to sit down and eat their lunch. It was fun and relaxing, being there and enjoying a little quiet time eating before they chatted about their projects.
"Hey, look! It's Jimin!" shouted one of the people from the swing unexpectedly. Hyunsoo recognised his voice immediately and smiled brightly. "And Hyunsoo!"
"Taehyung," said Hyunsoo and Jimin at the same time, standing up just as Taehyung jumped off from the swing and ran over to them, followed by a girl behind him.
Hyunsoo knew who the girl was, but hadn't realised she would ever see her again after that night. Jimin looked a little curiously at the girl too, waiting for her to get introduced. Taehyung, on the other hand, looked extremely excited to have found them here, and quickly pulled them in for a big hug.
"Hey." Jimin laughed. "How have you been?"
"Why didn't you come to see me when you got here?" asked Taehyung, right after pulling away from the hug. He had a slight pout on his face, but instead of looking plain cute, he looked handsomely classy and charming. "Oh, this is Areum by the way," he added, "My best friend from high school."
Areum smiled at Hyunsoo in recognition and said, "Hello, nice to see you again." Then, she looked at Jimin and greeted him separately.
"Nice to see you too," replied Hyunsoo. There was an odd feeling building up in her stomach.
"How was the cake? I know it's been a while," she said, chuckling, "but thought I'd ask anyway."
Jimin and Taehyung both looked at Hyunsoo with raised eyebrows, as if to say 'you know her?', but no one spoke.
"Yeah," she answered a little too enthusiastically. "It was great. It was fun, uh, we loved it. Anyway, so how is it that I never saw you before when you're so close to Taehyung? I'm sure we would've met by now."
At that, Taehyung jumped in and told them all about how they met each other again on the swing right here. Just when he had started talking, Areum gave Hyunsoo a look filled with wonder – probably also because she had noticed how Hyunsoo changed the topic intentionally. Judging from the expression on Areum's face, it seemed that she realised the cake topic was somehow something Hyunsoo didn't want to talk about, which is why she kept quiet and didn't ask again.
Hyunsoo didn't know Areum, but Areum knew about Hyunsoo's social status and her family due to her brother. It was a little uncomfortable knowing that there was someone she didn't know who knew about her family, and also went to the same university as her, even being friends with Taehyung. She knew she had to be careful just in case... but then, Areum seemed really nice from the moment they met. And her brother, the footman at the house, seemed great so far too. Maybe they were people she could be comfortable with... well, only time would tell. For now, there was no point dwelling on these thoughts.
The news about the upcoming 'welcome back' drug party was all over campus amongst the students. Hyunsoo secretly wanted to go, because most people she knew were going. She had never been asked by her badminton team to go before, or her course friends, but this time, it just so happened that they suddenly wanted her to be a part of it. Right when Jungkook and Hyunsoo were in the middle of a... what should she call it? A disagreement with each other? She could only imagine the confusion on Jungkook's face if she decided to enter his house and look for druggie Chen to hook her up with some pots to smoke.
Hoseok definitely disapproved of Hyunsoo turning up to the party. He even told her beforehand that she should try avoiding the places where Jungkook always hangs out, to which Hyunsoo said that she couldn't limit herself just because she hated Jungkook now. Hoseok had nothing to say to that, but it didn't stop him from clicking his fingers and starting a topic on 'people talking back'.
Well, whatever, thought Hyunsoo, after going through multiple scenarios in her head where things might go wrong if she went to the drug party. In the end, she decided it was best that she didn't go. There was really no point, and no reason for her to truly go.
She gave in. Hyunsoo was going to the drug party tonight. She managed to fight the urge off for a whole week, before she finally gave in on the day before the party when Joonhyung came up to her and asked about it.
"You going?" he had asked.
It was so casual and inviting, that Hyunsoo took a whole minute thinking about how to say no. However, Jimin jumped in before she got anything out.
"I'm actually going too since Taehyung wants me there badly." He grinned at Joonhyung, then looked at Hyunsoo to show his support if she wanted to say no. "If you end up going, would it be okay for me to accompany you?"
It was funny, thought Hyunsoo at that moment, because her and Jimin wanted to avoid Jungkook for their own reasons, so sticking together actually sounded like a good idea. How could she say no to them? Hoseok wasn't going to be happy, but she deeply wanted to go and enjoy the party. It's not like she ever went for the drugs, that just sort of happened. Why did it have to be at Jungkook's house though?
Once Hoseok found out that Hyunsoo was going, naturally, he decided to come along. Of course he wasn't completely happy about this, but he wasn't going to argue about it when he could just come along and keep an eye out instead, in case she needed to run away at any point...
Once the day of the party came, that evening, Hyunsoo and Hoseok met up with Joonhyung, Jimin and a few other people from the badminton team on the way to the party house, aka drug house, aka Jungkook's house. Hyunsoo was glad to see that Hoseok had gotten into the partying mood after seeing everyone else and looked like he was actually ready to pull out some cool dance moves in the kitchen.
They arrived pretty quickly at the house, where Hyunsoo noticed Chen right away talking to a group of people she knew were probably not from the university. Sometimes other people came here for the drugs and Chen – Hyunsoo was told once by Taehyung – started using this chance to take charge and make business with them.
As Hyunsoo was walking in through the front door, Chen stopped her and quickly handed her a small packet filled with weed saying, "It's on me. Happy new year."
"What?" she said surprised. Chen was always nice to her and talked to her in the previous parties, but she had never seen him anywhere else outside before. "You sure?"
"We're friends, aren't we?" he said, and smiled.
She took it and thanked him, watching him hand a packet to Jimin as well. Some people from her group looked slightly disappointed but tried to hide it. They had to pay to get something to smoke, while Hyunsoo and Jimin ended up getting it for free randomly. Hyunsoo had already decided not to inhale anything tonight, and even though she was grateful for Chen's act of kindness, Hyunsoo handed the packet to the others and told them to divide it between themselves. Hoseok widened his eyes and gazed at her approvingly, making Hyunsoo snort with laughter. It was rare seeing his motherly side come out, though it was nice.
Inside, the living room seemed to be more crowded than usual. Still, that didn't stop Hyunsoo from noticing certain people right away. Jungkook was there, right there on the sofa surrounded by at least five girls sitting around him, along with a few guys. They were laughing loudly and looked as if they were organising the drugs on the table. Though it was the look on Jungkook's face that stopped Hyunsoo from looking away immediately. It seemed like he was seriously enjoying the company of those girls, especially with the way he was observing each and every one of them, like he was hungry for them. It made Hyunsoo feel uncomfortable, but she couldn't stop herself from staring.
When she did finally stop, she noticed Yoongi in the distance too, standing at the edge of the entrance to the garden outside. His back was towards her, but she could tell he wasn't smoking anything, he was just enjoying the cool air. Taehyung and Areum found her at the same time as Hyunsoo did. Jimin even pointed Taehyung out just as the pair came up to Hyunsoo's group and once again, Areum's introduction to everyone was made.
