The speakers all around the hall suddenly blared to life, making guests look around in surprise to find out what was happening. Hyunsoo and Jimin looked up where the stairs were and found Jae standing at the top with a microphone in his hand, along with two big bodyguards stood right behind him. He was grinning down at the sea of people, here to celebrate his birthday.

Jae looked smugly at his bodyguard on the left, and then raised the mic to his face. "Ladies and, ladies," he started, smiling down at everyone with his shiny white teeth. "I'm just joking. Gentlemen as well."

"Very funny," muttered Hyunsoo under her breath, making Jimin chuckle next to her.

At the same time, someone, who was a little further from where Hyunsoo and Jimin stood, audibly whispered, "Oh stop it, you're making my stomach hurt."

Hyunsoo recognised the voice all too clearly, but just to confirm it, she had to crane her neck a little to see over the groups of people, only to find that it was indeed Jungkook standing with his hands folded and wearing an expression revealing nothing at all except that he would preferably be anywhere but here.

"I'd like to thank everyone here, who were able to make it to celebrate my birthday today. I'd also like to wish everyone a happy new year. It's quite amazing and ideal that we start each new year with the date of my birth. It motivates me to strive for the better, and I enjoy looking forward to bigger challenges throughout the year, knowing that it will end once again with the beginning of my birthday."

"You wanna know something interesting?" asked Jungkook to the girl closest to him. She nodded, and he continued, "According to my calculations, the angle Jae is holding the microphone at, and the way he's putting pressure on one leg, nearly standing with just that, I'm able to work out that there is a high chance he wrote his speech whilst sitting on the-"

"And!" shouted Jae suddenly. He must've heard the comments from the crowd, because his face twitched in disgust, though he managed to control himself again and hold onto his grin. "I wish to make a request that you all enjoy yourself to the fullest, interact with one another, and speak only good things, as today is a special day, and I'd like to remember it so."

"Toilet," finished Jungkook, smirking. He wasn't looking at the girl he had been speaking to, but was fixated on Jae instead, who happened to be looking right back at him.

Hyunsoo and Jimin were most likely not the only ones who could feel the tension rising between Jungkook and Jae. No one attempted to speak for a while, so one of Jae's bulky bodyguards took this chance to step forward and whisper something in Jae's ear. An eyebrow was raised on behalf of Jae, and a few hand gestures were exchanged. However, none of it gave any sort of clue as to what they might be talking about, so people waited calmly while Jungkook started yawning.

The awkward silence in the hall was interrupted by Jae's ringtone, surprising him the most. He hurriedly got his phone out and checked the caller ID, then stared back into the crowd. It was the way he was looking down that made Hyunsoo check what Jungkook was doing, before finding that he was also holding his own phone. Was he the one calling Jae? Why? Thought Hyunsoo.

Jimin seemed to have the same questions running through his mind. "Maybe it's something to do with him giving you the signal?" he wondered.

"I don't know what he wants me to do in a crowd like this though, if this really is the signal I mean, which I highly doubt."

Jae handed his phone over to the bodyguard that had whispered into his ear, and held up his microphone again to continue his speech. The phone was then slipped into the blazer pocket, Hyunsoo noted. The guard went back to stand in his prior position, which is when Hyunsoo finally realised what had just happened.
