Before the second semester started, Hyunsoo spent the rest of last week trying to finish all the uni work she had left for herself to do until the very end. As usual, she cursed herself for leaving things to the last minute, but it was a habit now, and this one in particular was difficult to break out of. Luckily, she managed to get a lot done anyway, because once Hyunsoo managed to focus on her work, she usually stayed like that until it was completed.
A major downside during this time was the fact that her mother hadn't forgotten about Hyunsoo's punishment at all. She was still trying to get Hyunsoo to read the entire library at home, even though she was too lazy to check up on her daughter herself. Most of the time, she would send one of the employees to Hyunsoo instead – luckily, the ones who she could feel more relaxed around – which made it easier for Hyunsoo to simply focus on her art work rather than read. Still, she couldn't believe she was still suffering from having talked back to her mother at her father's birthday party. She could only imagine what would happen if Mother found out about what she had been up to recently, though that no longer mattered now anyway...
In the late evening, Hyunsoo decided to walk around in the garden for some fresh air. It was nice for a change, since she barely went out to relax whenever she was at home. As she reached a stone bench and sat down, Hyunsoo noticed that the family gardener, called Chanwoo, was watching something with such concentration, he hadn't seen that Hyunsoo was nearby. She automatically turned to see what it was that caught his attention.
It was a little out of the ordinary to see him so interested in something other than the garden work. Chanwoo was a very moody and reserved man, he wasn't talkative with the other employees either, so no one knew much about him as a person. His constant stern expression wasn't exactly welcoming and the hunched posture just made everyone (except Hyunsoo's parents) feel sorry for his old age. Hyunsoo had noticed that for the first time he wasn't wearing his usual farmer dungarees either, instead, he was dressed in black trousers and a black turtleneck. An all black look. He didn't look like he was ready to do any kind of gardening.
Hyunsoo focused on what it was that Chanwoo was staring at, and found it odd when she realised it was the car that had recently driven in through the front gates after the security check. She knew within a second that it was her father coming home, probably after a business dinner, so thinking nothing of it, she started to stand up to walk back towards the house. That is until she heard Chanwoo do something that made Hyunsoo freeze in her tracks with her back towards him, but there was no mistaking it.
He scoffed.
To be honest, Hyunsoo felt a little stumped at what she had just heard. She even turned around a little to make sure it was definitely Chanwoo, and not some other new gardener they had hired, but she knew it was him. The same gardener who had been working here since before Hyunsoo was even born. It would be completely out of character for him to smile, mock or have a conversation with anyone other than Hyunsoo's mother, so hearing him scoff of all things was... Hyunsoo couldn't think of the right word to describe how she felt about this.
Why was this even bothering her? Hyunsoo carried on making her way indoors and let the suspicious thoughts on Chanwoo drown at the back of her mind. It was someone else's problem to deal with... if this even was a problem to begin with.
Soon the day came when Hyunsoo was planning to visit Jimin at his place and play a match of badminton against him. She checked the address he'd sent to her and quickly made her way to the station. It was difficult finding the perfect excuse to travel on her own for the day, though actually leaving the house had proved to be harder.
Jimin waited for Hyunsoo at the exit of the station once she got off the last train. It was in the same area as the park where they had last met, and it was just as nice and calming as the park had been. There was a lot more greenery here than at the university, or even where Hyunsoo lived. Except for the fact that half the grass in Hyunsoo's garden was fake.
