"Yes," answered Hyunsoo. No point in being discreet about Jungkook. He was most likely going to be no stranger to the house this Christmas holidays. "He's my guest from the university."
Mother raised a single perfectly plucked eyebrow. "From your university?" She was looking at Jungkook even more discriminatingly than she was before. "And may I ask what this boy's name is?"
Hyunsoo was about to answer, but Jungkook decided to jump in then. "No, you may not. Though you may ask the boy himself what his name is." His tone was drenched in sass.
For an awkward moment, Jungkook and Hyunsoo's mother had a stare off, both wearing unreadable expressions, even though Hyunsoo could usually decipher Mother's face easier than others could.
Jae cleared his throat to break the tension and said to Jungkook, "What's your name?" He was standing next to Mother now.
Hyunsoo had already figured out by now that Jae was not the nice guy he shows himself to be, which is exactly what she had thought when they first met. She didn't like people like him. They were two-faced, and could never be trusted. Jungkook looked at Jae with the same stare, but slowly, he started to smile. Jae, on the other hand, looked a little annoyed at either having to deal with this situation, or the fact that Mother had come interrupting just when he was saying how Hyunsoo apparently wanted to spend time with him. Speaking of which, had Mother been watching them from the beginning? Her timing had been too perfect, stopping Hyunsoo and Jungkook from attempting to ditch Jae.
Hyunsoo tugged on Jungkook's arm, trying to get him to stop being so stubborn and just answer the stupid question.
"It's Jungkook," he finally answered. He was wearing his most famous smirk, the one he used when he didn't like someone.
"Well, Jungkook," said Mother, "I would like a word with you in private. Let's leave Hyunsoo and Jae to have their little catch up, shall we?" She walked forward and began leading Jungkook away, giving him no choice but to follow.
Hyunsoo rolled her eyes. They had to do something about Mother, as well as Jae. Both were being problematic. Hyunsoo looked back and saw that her mother and Jungkook were now standing by the snack bar, both not looking any happier than the other.
"So," Jae started to say, bringing Hyunsoo's attention back to him. "Is Jungkook one of your close friends then?"
"I wouldn't bring just anyone here," she replied coldly.
"Right. Yeah, I guess that makes sense." He smiled. "But you guys aren't a thing, am I right?"
What was he getting at? Thought Hyunsoo, getting annoyed. However, just before she could get another word out, someone took this opportunity to grab Jae by the front of his shirt and pull him so close Hyunsoo automatically had to look down for a hot second.
"Jae, you didn't call me back! Did you not miss us? Or the time we spent together?" said the girl in a deep whisper loud enough for everyone around them to hear.
Hyunsoo looked back up at them and saw a similar aged looking girl with fiery red hair running her fingers through Jae's own reddish brown hair. Jae himself was just staring at the girl's face with a dead expression. This was becoming uncomfortable for Hyunsoo really fast.
"You're one of the best I've had babe, why would I not miss that? I told you though, I can't constantly keep in contact. I have work to do." He suddenly pushed her back a little at arms length.
Feeling awkward now, Hyunsoo didn't want to witness anymore of this, so she took a step back and spun around to get to the snack bar... however, the next thing she witnessed instead was Jungkook slow dancing with a random girl Hyunsoo didn't even know!
