35: Void

The last thing you saw were their encouraging eyes before you let your eyelids flutter close and faced the darkness that consumed you.

There was a light breeze that caused your body to shortly tremble with a shiver but you let yourself stay at ease. Getting too afraid and distracted would only break your focus and you didn't needed that at the moment.

You felt yourself slipping into the void and felt the presence of everyone else, even Jungkook, dissolving away into oblivion. That was what made you stop in tracks for a few seconds, because no longer being able to feel Jungkook's feelings made you trace back into your memories when Zero had taken you away.

You took a step back, hoping for a source of light to appear in the complete darkness. It scared you. You were losing focus.

Y/N, focus, focus.

And when you felt like you were about to lose it, a sudden warmness took over and replaced the cold breeze that had been fluttering by.

"It's okay," the gentle voice told you. "You're going to be okay."

You whipped your head around, searching for him but he was nowhere to be found. All that surrounded you was darkness.

"I'm scared," you admitted aloud as your arms went on to wrap itself around you.

"I'm here," Jungkook promised. "Even if you can no longer feel me, you have me."

"Are you sure?" You asked doubtfully. Some time ago he was hating you for something that wasn't even under your own powers. But now that you've returned from Zero's prison, it somewhat opened his eyes that you were just a vulnerable vampire who knew little to nothing about the dangerous world. "You won't change your mind?"

"I couldn't even if I want to, Y/N. You're my soulmate."

Your brows furrowed and you felt like escaping as a whole, without Jungkook being able to reach you.

"Okay, that came out wrong."

"Yeah," you rolled your eyes. He sounded like someone who couldn't escape his fate no matter what he did and that certainly wasn't making you feel better.

Did you asked to be his soulmate?

"I'm sorry."

You couldn't believe it. Jeon Jungkook, apologizing? To you?

You blinked once, twice, then looked around, still trying to see if you could find him somewhere in the void but of course he wasn't there.

"Am I hearing this right?" You asked, a little laugh escaping your lips because you really couldn't believe it.

"I'm serious, Y/N," the vampire affirmed. "But I don't want to talk about it here."

Meaning he wanted to say it in person.

You smiled.

The connection was growing, the tension releasing, and the bond could be felt. You felt light, you felt happy, and you couldn't wait to return to the real world and face Jungkook.

"Picture a Galaxy," he told you as the conversation returned to the reason why you had traveled into a void in the first place. "Imagine yourself walking amongst the stars with the beautiful Milky Way. Replace it with the void."

You imagined a star, the northern star, and saw it appearing almost instantly. Watching it in amazement, you saw how, unlike its actual form, the North Star flew around, creating streams of sparkles trailing behind it.
