As you strode down the familiar streets of Birmingham, your shoes clicked and your curly hair bounced effortlessly against your shoulders. People instantly made themselves scarce when they saw you walking down the street. After all, you knew the Peaky Blinders, you were one once before, but that changed quickly when Tommy messed it up and you got offered a job in London to peruse office work.
When you finally reached the Garrison, you rolled your beautifully painted red lips together and pushed open the doors. All the eyes turned to you, whispers erupting the silence as people recognised you, you had no intentions to stir up chaos, you just wanted a drink and as you strode towards the bar, that drink was playing on your mind.
"Y/N fookin Y/L/N!" A familiar deep voice boomed, you turned your head to see Arthur Shelby perched on a stool, whiskey in hand. "Arthur Shelby!" You bellowed, pulling him in for a hug.
You had known the Shelby's since you were a young child, being the same age as Thomas Shelby, you were partners in crime, inseparable. Your feelings for each other changed into something stronger at the age of fourteen, still inseparable and close. After spending two years of falling hopelessly in love with each other, Tommy made the first move and started kissing you on the cheek when he dropped you off at your door, soon developing into a kiss on the lips until you would drag him inside and sneak him upstairs, sneaking him back out in the morning on your way to school.
The relationship continued even after your parents had passed away in a car accident and Polly had taken you in for a while. In the following years, the men went off to war and you waited for Tommy. After all, he was your one true love and still was even if you didn't admit it. When he came home from the war, you welcomed him with opened arms and helped him fight the demons in his head, engulfing him in endless cuddles as he tossed and turned in the middle of the night. That all changed though when he slept with another woman, you accepted every single mistake he had made, but this... this was the final straw.
You packed your stuff and fled to London, Tommy accepting your choice after begging for you to stay but not getting anywhere.
But now, you were back and even you didn't understand fully why you were as you wrapped your hand around a well earned glass of straight gin.
"Nothing's changed, then." That voice, that once comforting voice that made you feel at home now made your heart drop with sorrow for he wasn't yours anymore.
Thomas Shelby was no longer with Y/N Y/L/N, he no longer smiled, he no longer laughed and he no longer showed affection in public. For you were his rock and when he lost you, he lost his heart too.
"Nope, but this place has." You smiled, looking around the newly decorated pub. "And so have you." You stated strongly, turning your gaze to him and raising your brow with a smirk. "Why are you back, Y/N?" Tommy pondered, searching your face, his eyes softening at the sight of your beautiful eyes meeting his. "Would you believe me if I said I don't actually know?" You chuckled to yourself before turning back to the bar and gulping the gin back in one swift motion, nodding to the barman for another. "No, something's brought you back," he stated, leaning his elbow on the bar, checking you out briefly as you stared at the golden architect bluntly. "Well, what can I say? Maybe, I missed this place. After all, it was my home once." You sighed, turning back to Tommy who was still studying your face like he was memorising everything about you - your eyes, the way you toyed your tongue over your lips when you were in deep thought. He missed you deeply and nothing could ever make up for the fact that he broke your heart, the heart he once promised to keep safe and happy. "Once? Still is if you give it another chance..." Tommy whispered, clearly referencing to you to give him another chance. "What if it screws me over again?" You stated bluntly, looking down at the freshly filled glass of gin and pulled it to your lips. "It won't, I'll make sure of it," he said, still watching your every move.
"Good," you whispered into the glass before gulping back the gin, placing it back on the bar and turning back to Tommy. "I'm so sorry, Y/N. You deserved better, I screwed you over, you're the best thing that's every happened to me and I messed it up. Please take me back, I love you." Tommy stated, his eyes pleading against your own. "Forgiven. Thomas Shelby, but I swear to God. You make the mistake again and I'll be out faster before you can blink." You implied sternly, watching as he nodded in agreement. "Now, we have some indulging to do. Take me home." You smiled and watched as his face lit up instantly, intertwining you hand with his - the electricity between you still so strong.
As you both headed towards your both shared home, you knew that things were going to be okay as you spoke the three words you had been desperate to tell him for the time you'd been apart.
"I love you."
