It was two weeks later and I hadn't seen Jess since the day we met each other's family. She had been in the studio for hours on end, every day. Getting there at 7 in the morning and leaving at 11pm at night. As well as not meeting up, only a couple of texts had been sent either way. It was quite boring without her. Going to the café each day; it was the same old, same old. Although a month ago it would be like this usually, it didn't feel right now that I had Jess as a friend.

It was lunchtime and I was sat at Jim's. I had written to Mum and I couldn't leave yet. The envelope that was addressed to me was placed on the table in front of me and I glared at it. I couldn't decide whether I wanted to open it or not. I needed to speak to Jess and ask her opinion.

Almost as if she could hear me, she came into the coffee shop at that precise moment. She ran over to me squealing. ''AHHH! Emelia I have missed you so much.'' She exclaimed, yanking me into a long tight hug.

''I've missed you too Jess, what are you doing here?!''

''I took half of the day off, I needed some fresh air.''

''You needed to get out of that studio before you went insane!''

''So what have you been up to?'' She said, taking a seat next to me.

''The same thing I do everyday.'' I stated, sighing at how boring my life was.

''You must have done something different?''

''Does taking a trip to the shopping centre count?''

She laughed. Which I did too.

''What about you?''

''One word. Studio. I haven't been out of that place. It's good though, I did a lot of the recording for my album pretty early.''

''So what does that mean?''

''I do adlibs and photo shoots now and if I need to do any recording a couple of months down the line then I can.''

''That's good, so no more studio for you for a while then?''

''Nope. Actually I'm free for the next like month. In and out of meetings, shoots and interviews sort of frequently, but I can relax before everything gets crazy busy.''

''That's amazing news, Jess.''

''Yeah, it is. What's this?'' She asked, pointing to the envelope.

''That's the letter my Mum left me, but I don't know whether I want to open it.''

''Still?''

''Still. I can't make up my mind whether I open it because it's something that I have left of her, or whether I don't because it'll bring up too many emotions and maybe questions that I need answering, which I can't have answered.''

Everything stayed quiet for a while and I was unsure how to stop the silence. Jess did it for me. ''Well I think you should open it.''

''But what if it says something important?''

''All the more reason to, you'll never know if you don't open it.''

''Why are you so damn smart?''

''I really don't know where I get it from.'' She raised her eyebrows, looking intrigued and puzzled at the same time.

We both cackled at her humour, she's the funniest person I know without fail. I put the letter into my bag and tried to push it to the back of my mind. We left and were on our way to Jess' car. She said she was going to take me to her house to watch a movie and for a little meal; as we hadn't seen each other in so long. ''I'm parked just around here.''
