"I want your essay on my desk by Monday. The first day we come back and on that note class have a lovely two weeks off." Maya's last teacher of the day concluded, smiling tiredly as he watched his class stand up and begin to disperse.
"Thank goodness class is over!" Sadie sighed. Maya nodded in agreement packing up her belongings into her mint backpack.
Sadie was the only college friend Mayalika had managed to make in Brooklyn so far. Sadie was a mature girl who had a three year old son. She was currently studying to get a business degree so that when she graduated she could own her own interior design company. They had both met in business class because the teacher had paired them up for an assignment and they had hit it off immediately.
Sadie glanced down at her rose gold watch, frowning at the time, "Shoot I gotta go pick up Jordan from his day-care I don't wanna be late again. If you want to hang out on the weekend and go to the mall I'm free," Sadie suggested, slinging her handbag over her shoulder.
"Sure, I hadn't had anything planned."Sadie smiled walking with Maya towards the door, "Well you have my number, I'll text you later." Sadie chirped, handing Maya a piece of paper with a hasty number scrawled on the front.
"I will." Mayalika promised, storing it in her hoodie pocket and with that Sadie was off, melting into the crowd of students on campus.
Maya walked towards her car slowly, enjoying the summer sun while it lasted. She was wearing a blue striped romper with knee-high sandals. Her curly hair was in two buns though a few strands had escaped to frame her face. She had gotten cold earlier and threw on her white hoodie she kept in her car.
Since she had breakfast this morning with her grandmother she didn't want to venture further onto campus to get herself some lunch though she knew she would regret it because the latte's on campus were to die for. The smell of a student's food made her stomach growl in desire as she began to regret her decision.
As Maya approached her car she saw a tall slim girl step into her pathway. Her blonde hair was in curls but they were an odd shade of blonde. Her face was splotchy and red making her Bambi like eyes somewhat bulge out.
Her green eyes narrowed with curiosity, "Have you seen a girl named Jayda around?" She inquired. Surprisingly, her voice was squeaky and high pitched almost like a balloon that was being scratched. Maya fought the urge to cringe at the sound.
"No, I haven't," Mayalika stated. Her face soured, looking in Maya's direction she looked over her body trying to see if she was telling the truth. After a minute she looked Mayalika in her eyes, her scowl deepening as she crossed her thin arms over her large chest.
"Oh." She said, "Well if you do see her. Tell her that her girlfriend Emma is looking for her," She added. Maya nodded though she had no intention of doing whatever this girl told her to do. After making two attempts to pass by the girl Maya shoved her and quickly hurried towards her car. Not looking back to see if the girl was watching her though she had a feeling she was.
As Maya unlocked her Yellow Toyota Prius, she felt the burning gaze of the girl on her back until she pulled out of campus towards her grandmothers' bakery. Unaware of the car that was following behind her.
