Maka's Point of View

----------

I woke up in Soul's arms, knowing not all of me is awake yet. I'm starting to get used to her being gone, because I'm actually having fun. I'm happy, I realize, a smile plastered to my face.

But she's going to wake up, and what if I only think I'm perfectly happy? The thought slams against me harder than the pain shooting through my head.

Soul's arms tighten around me as he sleeps, I can only assume the black blood in his system is bothering him again, it's been bothering him for awhile, but I thought it was getting better... We beat Medusa before, right? So we can do it again, can't we? But why is it coming back? The hurried, worried thoughts rush through my head, I ignore the pain. Only wishing my brain would wake up.

Soul's Point of View

----------

The tiny devil in his black suit taunts me, Maka's presence isn't helping this time. I know she's there because my heart is at peace, but his grin is haunting. The pull is harder this time, maybe it isn't just a coincidence that I'm having this problem so close to our altercation with the Witch Calypso. Can witches share magic?

The devil is now laughing, "I'm a part of you, Soul." His grin impossibly widens, "I'm involved in everything you do, I feel happiness when you do. I'm elated that you and Maka have found happiness together, I wonder what I can do to help."

"You will stay away from her," I snarl through my sharp teeth.

"The only way I can do that is if you stay away from her," he says with feigned sadness. "I don't know what these hands are capable of," he wrings his hands in front of him.

I wake with a start shooting upright in my bed, Maka rises up with me, concern coloring her features. "He's trying to bring you back, isn't he?"

"Nothing's going to happen, you worry too much," I say smoothly. Thank goodness I can keep my cool through the panic I feel.

"Soul, you've said that before," her brow furrows more. "What was the dream about?"

"Nothing, just the residual blood hanging out, we beat Medusa before, we can do it again."

"You said it wasn't coming back," her voice is rushed.

"It's not, but if it was, we can beat it. You brought me out of it before," I remind her, I nuzzle her neck. "Now we're closer, you won't lose me."

Her arms swing around me, "Soul, I can't lose you."

My arms wrap around her, reassuringly, the devil in me grins and it's reflected on my face.

God, what's happening to me...?
