The thing about mothers

Ahh mothers.

Our safe havens, most of the time anyway.

Most of the time though, they're our closest friends. It's weird, I'm aware, to say that a mother and a daughter are considered 'bestfriends'.

But they are. They are people that when almost anything that's hurting you, you go to her.

Why?

Because regardless of having so many friends, no will understand you more than she would. A bit clichè but it's true.

You feel grounded when she solves all your problems, like whatever happens to you, it's no big deal, cause she'll be there. And that's such a reassuring feeling to have inside you at all times.

Granted we keep secrets from her, we get into small fights over trivial things, but everything seems so stupid later on doesn't it?

You know that moment when you're both gossiping about so many things, and at times when you felt lonely, you remember you have her.

And remembering that makes you tear up but you don't actually cry, you just smile at her, kiss her cheek and get up to make her some coffee just the way she likes it.

I guess we don't really say it enough. No child ever does. But our mothers are our literal lives, we owe everything to them.

We owe ourselves to them, and that's something we should remember when the time comes and it's our turn to take care of her.
