A/N: I am uploading a week early since I will be leaving on a trip for the next few weeks and will miss the date for the next scheduled update! The next update should be right on schedule at the second week of June.

Dedicating this story to @Kushina_Korra95 who had the same idea premise, but just a slightly different planned storyline. I hope it satisfies you.

[It Was Actually All A Lie]

Personality: Post-DMC4SE/Pre-DMC5 Vergil

It was actually all a lie. There was never a person called Vergil Sparda. In reality, this person never existed. He never actually approached Arkham, never actually summoned the demon tunnel. Vergil was not the one who had put a sword in Dante's chest when they 'met' on the top of the tunnel, and he certainly was not the one who caused his brother so much wounds and scars.

It had all been just one man named Dante Sparda with dissociative identity disorder.

The first time Dante's parents realised that there was something wrong with their son had been shortly after the first time he had been threatened by demons when Sparda was careless. Sparda had been fixing training wheels on Dante's small bike, not realising that his hyperactive and super-curious son had actually gone running out of the boundary of Sparda's protection spell around their house. Once Dante had been out of the protection of his father, it hadn't taken long for demons to find Dante and terrorise the then-all-unknowing child. Sparda had come to save the day before Dante received any physical damage, and the child seemed to have recovered to his usual bubbly self shortly after, so his parents had not thought much about it.

Until Dante gradually began asking for clothes and belongings that were of a different colour from his favourite reds. Dante as a young child had naturally gravitated towards red and colours of that shade, and his mother had only obliged to her son's tendencies. But, when the boy suddenly began asking for more and more possessions coloured in blue, the observant mother slowly started to get worried.

Eva gradually realised that Dante acted slightly less bubbly, less careless and carefree whenever he chose to wear blue-shaded clothes. Even though hyperactive Dante usually needed to be strapped down to his chair whenever his parents wanted him to do some light reading to expand his vocabulary, Eva found him sitting obediently on the couch reading quietly –and voluntarily –during the days when he wore blue clothes.

Suspicions that something might have been wrong with their son was confirmed one day when Dante's parents saw him running around with his toy gun, making gunshot sounds loudly and shooting imaginary enemies. All of a sudden, the boy stopped in front of the fireplace, all silent, and blinked for half a minute. Shortly after, the boy put away his toy gun neatly (which was uncharacteristic of the careless Dante), grabbed a book from the low shelf, and climbed to the couch to read.

"Dante?" Sparda had asked carefully, watching his son look up with an expressionless face.

"My name is Vergil. Don't be afraid, don't worry. Dante created me when he was threatened by the demons. I'm here to help him deal with those things." Dante had replied his father. That had been the first time Vergil had been introduced to his parents.

Over time, Sparda and his wife got used to their son's situation. If they were honest, they were actually glad that Dante had created his alter ego (alter), and the fact that Vergil as an alter was a very stable persona for Dante's emotional health. Neither had wanted Vergil to go away because they could easily see how Dante was attached to having a 'twin brother', and how the super imaginative son of theirs had much fun 'playing' with his 'twin brother'. Vergil never did Dante any harm, so Sparda and Eva never tried to force him away. In fact, Vergil was such an obedient version of their son that they felt as if they had gotten another son sometimes. They loved Vergil the same way they loved Dante since both of them were their son.
