A/N: Demons, Dungeons and a Commander named Finn Cross, a pseudo elder-brother to the Famed Twins. Setting this story in a slightly different world than the original, as well as a spotlight on someone different this time.

[Finn Cross (Part One)]

Personality: Post-DMC4SE/ Pre-DMC5 Vergil

"What do we do, Commander?" Raoul, a poor soul who had only made it as far as to Circle 4 on his own, asked desperately with eyes darting to their dangerous surrounding ever so often. Finn could not blame the young one; when he had first reached the 9th circle of Hell, he had been equally affected by the heavy atmosphere that naturally drew out a hunter's worst fear.

Finn put his back to Raoul, his weapons out and ready to defend against attacks from any oncoming demons, and took a quick glance at the situation splayed out in front of him. The scene was worrying, but not something that was dangerous just as yet. His party still had some fight left in them, though he wasn't sure if that fight would last longer if he tried to push on a little more.

Did he want to risk the lives of his party? His goal of leading the mid-levelled hunters into the famed 9th circle for them to gain a little more experience and broaden their knowledge of the different types of demons that could be seen in the different circles was completed. He doubted that anyone would complain very much if he called for a withdrawal of forces now. Yet, on the other hand, the young ones had yet to be pushed to their limits since he and the Twins had been here with to protect them. What sort of experience did he expect the young ones to have if they were all cowering behind the shelter that he –and the Twins –made?

"We stay and fight until you guys cannot fight anymore." Finn made his decision and intentions clear, turning to face where the fight was going on the strongest. "Be afraid to die, because that is the only way you will learn."

With his words of stern advice, Finn charged right into the heart of the fight. The ten-headed dragon seemed to have some problems dealing with the bulk of party by themselves, but now that Finn was joining into the fight, the battle was tipping on its scales. Still, he made sure that he did not put in a complete 100%, and when he jumped back to escape a slew of fire from the mouth of the one of the dragon heads, he was not surprised to find that the Twins had done the same to escape the same attack, flanking him on the left and right.

"I see you are not giving your all today, Cross." Vergil said, straightening up quickly from his landing crouch, his sword all bloodied but ready to spill more.

"Luna will think that you are slacking off again, Shorty." Dante added, his tone of voice revealing that he thought nothing of this ongoing fight.

Finn himself straightened too, re-gripping his swords on both hands as he stood still for a short while, surveying the scene in front of him. The young ones were really giving it their all, and a small sense of pride filled him to see the ferocity of the young hunters as they did their best to defeat their foe. If he was honest, Finn doubted that the young ones –even with the best of their current abilities –would be able to defeat the dragon without help from either him, or one of the twins. Still, he welcomed any potential surprise as he stood watching.

"If one of them steps up to take charge, Luna will thank me instead." Finn answered with an easy smile, giving Dante a side-glance. "Will it be you?"

"Nah." The man yawned and stretched, one hand holding the heavy broad-sword Rebellion easily as if it weighed nothing. "Too troublesome."

"Your loss." Finn shrugged, then looked at the other side. "Vergil?"

"It is not my moment to step in. This expedition was for their sake. We are only bodyguards, and you the guide."
