*third person POV*
Evan sits in the waiting room of the hospital. They took Brooke back immediately when he brought her in. Since he is not a relative or a spouse, he couldn't fill in her paperwork, though he tried. The police came to check on the situation, asking Evan all the questions.
"We told you to watch her for a few days." Officer Lapp says angrily, "We left her in your care!"
"She ran out again!" Evan screams, covering his face afterwards. "She ran away from me yet again and I was stupid enough not to run after her once again. I'm an idiot."
Officer Elm and Officer Lapp exchange a look. Evan shakes his head as he rubs his tired face. Too much has happened in one day, and he's ready to take Brooke home and lock her up so she can't get away again.
"I should have ran after her the first time." Evan lightly cries, his voice weak. "I don't deserve her."
"We called your wife, Mr. Taylor." Officer Elm says calmly, "She should be on her way here now."
Evan nods, looking down at his boots. "Tomorrow I'm going to file for a divorce."
Officer Lapp lets out a nervous laugh and walks off. Officer Elm shakes his head at Evan.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Officer Elm says light heartedly, "Because you have to have a valid reason—"
"Brooke is my reason." Evan cuts him off, "Brooke and my child and this shit and Natalia taking over EVERYTHING and only marrying me because she's too old to say 'no' anymore."
Officer Elm blinks. "Damn."
Evan nods. "I don't love my wife, man. She was just a fix to numb my pain from losing Brooke. I thought maybe if I had someone else, they could distract me from the pain—and it was working for a while—but it's only temporary."
Officer Elm lets out a nervous laugh. "Damn."
"I'm an asshole." Evan nods, "Did you find anything about my child? I'm sure after this neither one of us will get her back."
"Yes you will. You just have to make sure Miss Adams is stable first. We're still searching for your daughter, but it shouldn't be long." Officer Elm says comfortingly.
Natalia rushes through the ER and looks around. When she sees Evan, she runs over to him. She's wearing a revealing top and tight jeans with heels, her makeup all done up.
"What happened?!" Natalia shouts, "Where have you been!?"
"I found Brooke in a stream, drowning." Evan doesn't meet Natalia's eyes, "I'm waiting on her results."
Natalia covers her mouth. "Oh, my God!"
Suddenly, a nurse emerges from the ER doors. Evan quickly stands and rushes over to her. She is taken back by him and Officer Elm.
"Miss Adam's family?" The nurse says.
"I'm her husband." Evan says nervously.
"EX husband." Both Natalia and Officer Elm says in unison.
Evan shakes his head. "Her only contact."
The nurse nods her head slowly, looking between the three of them carefully.
"Well, Miss Adams took quite a rough hit. No broken bones but she has MANY scrapes and bruises up and down her body. She's mainly injured mentally, from her previous case. She's going to be okay." The Nurse's words give Evan relief, "Since she doesn't have health insurance and no home or income, we do have to turn her over to the police."
"Send me the bill." Evan says quickly, receiving a glare from Natalia. "I'll pay for it. She's coming home with me—AND staying with me this time."
The nurse shrugs. "Alright, besides an extra pair of clothes, Miss Adams is ready to go."
Natalia shakes her head at Evan. "She's not wearing any of MY clothes."
"I course not, I wouldn't want Brooke to look like my slutty wife." Evan scoffs, everyone's mouths go wide open. "I'll be back with some clothes."
Everyone's mouths go wide open. Evan turns and quickly leaves to go to a nearby store to get Brooke some warm, dry clothes. He mentally kicks himself for not doing that sooner.
Officer Elm . "Well, Damn, now that was a little uncalled for."
