(Picture of Evan Taylor Above)
As I begin to pack up for the night, I hear a chilling voice echo throughout the office.
"Miss Adams, I need to see you in my office. NOW!" Mr. Taylor exclaims from his office door.
Oh no. I can sense trouble. And Evan only left an hour ago. Taking a deep breath in, I tell myself that I will be okay. I got this handled. I don't need to depend on Evan for everything. Pushing my glasses up from the tip of my nose, I march to Mr. Taylor's office with my head held high.
I knock on the door. "Yes, sir?"
Mr. Taylor doesn't even look up at me. "SIT. DOWN!"
My first thought goes to my engagement with Evan. I bite the inside of my cheek as I do as he commands. Mr. Taylor looks up at me, his blue eyes fiery like the lakes of fire in Hell.
"I'll give it to you, Miss Adams." Mr. Taylor glares at me, "Even after I've given you every chance to give you a bright future, you still stuck to your guns. Bravo indeed. But because I've given you every chance to save your career and you've ignored it, I'm have to let you go."
A scoff like laugh escape my lips. "Evan won't let you."
"I know my son proposed to you, Miss Adams." Bob says snarkily, "I saw that ring on your finger when you came in this morning."
I shake my head. "You still can't fire me."
"Oh, but I can, you see. You've been slacking off a lot lately, and you've been effecting a coworkers ability to properly do his job." Bob say to me, pissing me off. "So yes, Miss Adams, I CAN fire you."
"Evan won't let you." I say with a lump in my throat.
"EVAN—" Bob starts to scream but cools himself "will wake up one day and realize how much of a waste you are to him. He'll realize what class he belongs in. You might as well learn yours now. Now get THE HELL OUT OF MY BUILDING BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE!!!!"
I jump when his hands slam against his desk. My entire body is shaking, I can barely breath. Bob stares at me with a wicked smile, believing he has scared me. And that's when I realize his game; he's enjoys my fear.
As heat rises in my chest, I stand very slowly with a small smile on my face. I stand and go to my desk. When I see that old computer Bob never updated for me, I chuckle like a mad person. I grab it and throw it across the room. It shatters into a million pieces. I grab all the supplies on my desk and throw them around, breaking many of them. Then my uncomfortable chair that was never updated either. It's given me back problems. I throw that shit too.
Right as I am about to clock out, Bob steps out and sees the mess I created. I expect him to yell, scream, call the police. But no. He just smiles at me with that nasty smile of his. Almost as if he were proud of me. I quickly clock out.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My apartment is empty. Full of furniture but still, lifeless. I feel so weak and so stupid. I threw a HUGE tantrum and that was exactly what Bob wanted. I proved nothing and now I cannot undo what I have done. Shit, what the hell did I just do? Lucy has tried to call me a few times but I ignore her.
Now, I sit in my bubble bath. I turn the faucet on and off with my big toe. What am I going to do now? I hear a pounding like sound at the door. I ignore that too. Hopefully whoever it is goes away. I don't want to see anyone right now. But the pounding does not stop. Oh, God. Could it be the police?
Suddenly, my phone rings. That same Aerosmith song comes on and I answer it. Evan knows what I did.
"Come open the damn door. NOW!" Evan says angrily through phone.
Oh no. "Baby, I'm in the bathtub."
"Well..." Evan says sharply, "Get out of the bathtub and come answer the damn door!"
Annoyed and slightly terrified, I get out of the tub and wrap myself in my oversized bath towel. I tip toe to the front door and look out the peep hole to see Evan standing there. After unlocking the door, I carefully open the door and peak my head out. Evan wears a blue jean shirt and jeans, his big steal toe shoes.
"Yes?" I say innocently.
Suddenly, I am knocked back by Evan, who barges into my apartment. I hold onto my towel harder as I close my door. Evan paces the floor, his entire body shaking.
"Baby—" I start.
"WHAT THE HELL BROOKE?!?!?!" Evan screams in my face, tears begin to roll down my cheeks.
I quickly wipe them away. "So you know?"
"Yeah Baby" that nickname sounds like a threat to me now, "I know what you did."
Something inside of me tears. I think it's my heart. Yeah, it is. Because it's breaking.
"I was about to call you when I got a call from Candace, saying that you destroyed company property!" Evan says angrily, "What gave you the right mind to pull that shit?"
"Bob knows about our engagement." Evan pauses for a moment at my words, "So he fired me and tried to scare me."
"And throwing a tantrum is the solution?" Evan says.
"I got mad." I simply say.
"You got—MAD?!" Evan shouts at me, "You've embarrassed the company! You embarrassed ME!"
I shake my head, trying to keep it together. "I didn't mean to."
"Well you did." Evan says coldly, leaving me just as chilled. "You reacted like a child! I can't defend what you did. Not this time."
Now that ticks me off. "I have never done you wrong! I have always stuck to my place."
"Well you stepped out today." He scoffs, shaking his head. "I've never felt so embarrassed in my life. You should have come to me instead of behaving like an idiot."
A groan escapes my lips. "I wanted to do something for myself for once! Instead of depending on you to take care of it for me."
"Then I'll let you suffer the consequences like an adult." Evan's words are like knives, stabbing me hard in the chest and gut. "I'll let you see how hard it is."
As Evan starts to storm out, I try to grab his hands and arms. I don't want to end this fight like this. He pushes me away and swings the door open, nearly hitting me in the face.
"Evan!" I cry out as he marches down the hallway. "Evan, please!"
I start to run down the hallway, in nothing but my soaking wet towel, when Evan gets in the elevator and doesn't even stand where he can see me. I cry out once more.
"Baby, please!" I cry out, tears streaming down my face.
It's too late. Evan is gone.
