BOOM!
My eyes fly open as I am awakened by the house shaking from
the loud thunder. I can feel my heart racing in my chest and hear it in my ears. A dog whines in another room. Suddenly, I feel a stiff pain in my lower back and I groan, shaking from the thunder rumbling. Immediately, I feel my warm pillow move beneath me.
"Brooke?" The sound of Evan's deep, sexy, caring, sleepy voice eases my nerves. "You're shaking."
"Baby..." I look up to see my Baby's messy hair and tired blue eyes staring at me.
His thumb brushes over my cheek tenderly, moving his head towards me. He moves in to kiss me, from his lips starting to pucker, but he stops and groans he begins to rub his neck. I sit up, my body beginning to ache allover. From what I can see through the darkness, we are in Evan's living room. I swing my feet around and sit on the very edge of the couch.
"God, my necks sore." Evan swings his feet around me, his joints popping as he moves. His hand lands on mine. "Sweetheart, you're still shaking."
My body gets pulled into Evan's muscular chest and arms. I can smell the distant beer and cigarette smoke from his stale breath. He kisses my temple tenderly. Another crack of thunder leaves me shaking. My arms wrap tightly around his chest as I bury my head into his neck. My body trembles as I hang onto Evan for dear life. I hate the thunder, I always have. Evan's boxer, Chase, whines loudly and runs through the house. The sound of his nails clicking against the hardwood floor leaves an echo in my mind.
Evan's arms only get tighter around me. "Shhh, it's okay. It's just thunder, sweetheart."
"I can't believe I fell asleep over here again." I say in a small voice, shaking from the thunder rumbling. "I should go."
I stand and start towards the counter where I had left my keys when I got here. Suddenly, a big, warm hand grabs mine. I turn to Evan, whose eyes are tired and soft. He puts his hand on my hips and pulls me into his space.
"Don't go, sweetheart." Evan says, "You're too tired."
In my mind, I argue with him. I can't stay because I don't want his parents to come over tomorrow morning and catch me here. I can't stay because he's my boss's son. I can't stay because his sisters are trying to hook him up with someone around his age. I can't stay because Renee and Lucy will be down my back tomorrow when I do leave. A million things run through my head and leaves me with a nasty headache. But when Evan's big, gentle hand slides down my biceps and takes my hand, I'm done for.
"Okay." I say in a small voice.
I let Evan's hand guide me down the millions of hallways that lead to his bedroom. Thunder rolls loudly in the distance and it leaves me shaking. My Baby kisses my hand softly as we walk to his bedroom, the lighting being or only light in the house.
It's always so weird when I step inside his bedroom. I mean, I've been here before obviously. Many of time. But Evan's little brother, Drew, told me once that he refers to his bedroom as his 'Kingdom' and so many ladies have tried to rule with him. I know he didn't mean to upset me, but Drew's words still leave me with red cheeks and tight fist. I try my best not to think about all the women Evan has been with before me. From what I've heard, he's had every flavor and just about every size. Just not young blood, until he met me. It bothers me, I guess, since there hasn't been anyone before him for me. He's taught me so many things and been so patient with me, but I still lack.
I go and sit on the foot of Evan's bed as he runs he's through his dresser drawer. I can't help but wonder what I need to wear. Usually, I wake up naked beside him the morning after another one of best dates. Evan turns and throws one of his shirts at me, I catch it awkwardly.
"I'll be right back." I start to tiptoe out of the bedroom, Chase running around the house whining. "Gotta put this on."
"Brooke, it's just me." Evan starts to strip from his Adidas sweatpants to his underwear. "We've seen each other naked before."
Awkwardly, I step back into the bedroom. And stand there trying not to stare straight at Evan as he slips his plaid boxer briefs down. My cheeks blush bright red at the beautiful sight before me and I force myself to look away. I hear Evan chuckle at me as he climbs into bed. He lays back and puts his hands behind his head as waits on me. His tired, worn smile melts my heart. How in the hell is he still not married at 37?!
"Damn, you're so cute when you blush like that." He says softly, fluffing his pillow.
Yeah, I know. He's quite a bit older than me, a 14 year difference to be exact. I'm only a 23-years-old fresh outta college with an English and Teaching major.
I awkwardly slip my Nike leggings off and also my tight Avengers top. My hands shake from my anxiety of being in just my lacy turquoise underwear with yellow and orange flowers on it. Evan has seen me naked before, of course, but it's the way he looks at me now makes me feel weird. His dazed eyes and goofy smile like smirk, licking his lips ever so often.
"I left my glasses in the living room." I say as I reach down to grab Evan's baggy t-shirt after I had dropped it.
"I'll bring them to you in the morning." Evan sighs, getting comfortable in bed, "Before I head off to work."
I quickly pull the t-shirt over my head and breath in the scent. It smells like his dryer. Linen fresh. I quickly hop up on the bed and crawl to the head of the bed where Evan is. He pulls back the covers for me, his pasty ass and matching thigh flashes me.
"Um, Baby?" I say softly, "I don't sleep close to the door."
Evan nods, moving to the left side of the bed. I slip under the warm covers. My Baby lightly groans beside me as he gets comfortable. I wiggle as I try and get comfortable.
"Brooke, quit moving." Evan says firmly.
I whine. "I'm trying to get comfy!"
"Lay still!" He says again, more firmly.
I move once more and try my hardest to keep still. Every once in awhile I move but eventually I drift off to sleep. My last thoughts are of Evan's arms wrapped around me as I pull off to sleep.
